Wyoming Nursing Schools

Wyoming is a pretty big state, but a lot of that is wide open space dominated by farms and ranches. As a result, there aren’t very many nursing schools in the whole state – only around seven nursing schools in Wyoming in total.

This means that Wyoming is facing some serious challenges when it comes to graduating enough nursing students to fill all of the positions available in the state’s many hospitals, private practices, nursing homes, and other businesses that need qualified nurses.

Wyoming also has relatively few urban areas when compared to other states, and these urban areas tend to attract the newest nurses. This is tough on Wyoming’s medical facilities in rural areas, but it also means that nurses can pretty much take their pick from Wyoming’s many available nursing jobs.

Outlook for Nursing in Wyoming

Large hospitals in Wyoming often offer sign-on bonuses, tuition reimbursement programs, and other incentives to bait nurses into working for them. Fortunately, there are other financial aids, loan repayment, and scholarship programs available for nurses that want to avoid the stress of working in a hectic city hospital, for example, The Wyoming Healthcare Provider Loan Repayment Program, designed to lure nurses to underserved areas.

Big city hospitals generally have more money available to help them court newly licensed nurses, but there are still plenty of reasons to consider committing to work in a medically underserved area, instead.

Career Potential for Wyoming Nurses

Wyoming’s nursing salaries vary, just as much as they do in any other state with a variety of economic and geographical areas. An RN working for a hospital in Laramie can look forward to earning a median annual salary of $59,815, while an RN working in Casper would earn $60,275. These are just medians, and actually reflect a salary range from $49,000 to over $70,000. A lot of factors influence nursing salaries, including what type of health care facility a nurse is employed by. All figures are from the BLS.
