The University of Wyoming is a public university located in Laramie, Wyoming. It is organized into 9 colleges and schools and enrolls over 13,000 students. The School of Nursing at the University of Wyoming was established in 1951, and the first class graduated in 1954.
In 2003 the School of Nursing was renamed the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing after Roy Whitney made a $3 million gift to the university as a birthday gift his wife, Fay. The School of Nursing offers the BRAND (Bachelors Reach for Accelerated Nursing Degree)program to college graduates who now would like to pursue professional nursing careers. This 2nd degree BSN program allows students to earn a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree after 15 months. The program combines traditional classroom courses, online learning and clinical experiences. Clinical sites are located in Casper, Evanston, Gillette, Jackson, Laramie and Rock Springs. To qualify for this ABSN (Accelerated BSN) degree program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the following prerequisite classes: Pathophysiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Microbiology, General Psychology, and Nutrition. The application deadline is in December.
