The University of North Alabama (UNA) is nestled in the northwestern corner of the state and has been in service to students since 1830 when it was opened under the name of LaGrange College. University of North Alabama Nursing Program Review
The College of Nursing & Allied Health that operates under the University of North Alabama offers several different programs both in class and through online studies. These programs of study are designed to be student oriented and provide each student with a program of study that will fit into their lifestyle as well as create more opportunities for them to advance in the field of nursing no matter what their current education level is at the time of application.
BSN – Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Traditional)
This traditional program is designed for students who are just starting their educational journey in the nursing division. This program schedules 128 semester hours that include basic education fused with nursing specific education. This program generally takes four years to complete. Graduates of this program are considered eligible to take the national exam for licensure. Passing of this exam grants these students the opportunity to apply for employment as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a variety of different health care facilities.
Accelerated Alternative – BSN – Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Students who have graduated from another accredited institution, or have completed the necessary courses to attain a Bachelor degree in a study other than nursing may be eligible to apply for the accelerated alternative option provided at the University of North Alabama College of Nursing & Allied Health. This program lasts approximately 15 months and applicants must have completed the same requirements as is necessary to enter the traditional BSN program. Students who complete the program successfully are eligible to apply to take the national licensure exam to obtain the title of Registered Nurse (RN).
RN to BSN – Flex-Track Online
This program is available to students who have already acquired the title of Registered Nurse (RN) and are looking for a jump in career that will open doors in the nursing field that require a higher level of education. This program includes 30 semester hours of instruction as well as clinical experiences in the field. The program has been made with the working RN in mind with multiple responsibilities that need to be taken into consideration when choosing to further their education.
RN to MSN Option
This program’s courses are all offered online. While clinical experiences are required, they are scheduled in the student’s community on their schedule. Taking the RN to MSN courses allows for the student to achieve both a BSN and MSN degree in one program of study.
MSN – Master of Science in Nursing – Online Program
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program offered at University of North Alabama provides two different tracks for students to choose between. Nursing in Teaching-Learning Environments prepares nurses educate the nurses of the future in the techniques used in the field. This option would be fitting for the student who is interested in taking part in educating in an academic situation. The Leadership option is a good fit for individuals who currently hold a leadership type position in their current working environment. Successful completion of either option results in the awarding of a MSN degree.
