University of Alabama – Huntsville Nursing Program Review

Under the school’s programs, students have the abilities to maximize the flexibility of their class schedules by using the online courses offered. Students of all education levels are welcomed with degrees offered in Undergraduate as well as Graduate Programs.
BSN – Bachelor of Science in Nursing
In this course of study, students will be instructed in the lower level, general education portion of the program in order to prepare them for the upper level, nursing specific portion. This program not only teaches students the techniques involved with starting their career in the nursing industry, but also teaches the ethical and behavioral aspects of the career. This program can be completed in a total of 129 credit hours. After completion of the program students are then able to apply to take the licensure exam to obtain employment as a Registered Nurse (RN).
RN to BSN – Bachelor of Science in Nursing
This program is set up to accommodate students who hold an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) and are interested in pursuing their Bachelor degree in order to open more doors in their career or to continue their education to a higher level of specified nursing practices. Students accepted into this program will be admitted to the second phase of the Bachelor program offered for students without a prior license.
RN to MSN – Master of Science in Nursing
This program is designed for those students who are seeking to go from an Associate degree straight into a Master’s degree program while obtaining their Bachelor degree within the programs curriculum. Under this program, students can choose from several different topics of study including, Family Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Nurse Leader, and Leadership in Health Care Systems. This program generally takes two and a half years to complete, with the first year of study being aimed at achieving Bachelor degree status.
MSN – Master of Science in Nursing
The Master of Science in Nursing program at University of Alabama in Huntsville allows students to choose from different tracks to obtain the specific training in advanced nursing. There are five tracks available under this program: Family Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Clinical Nursing Specialist, Leadership in Health Care Systems, and Clinical Nurse Leader. Upon completion of the student’s selected program, they are then able to apply to write the national exam for the area in which they graduated.
DNP – Doctor of Nursing Practice
This 34 hour program is designed for students wishing to obtain employment in a clinical faculty setting. This program has an option to be completed through full time study or part time study. The student will be trained on the ways to carry out leadership roles in a health care facility and to work with other professional in order to promote excellence in patient care and work on the ways that patient care can be improved by looking at data and analyzing what regulations work best for the facility.
Post-Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program
This program is available to those students who have already gained their master’s degree in nursing. The certificate program can be completed in a total of 27 hours of in class instruction and 588 hours of clinical work. Students must complete some prerequisite courses in order to be eligible to gain entry to this program.
Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education Program
Students that have a master’s degree or are taking graduate education courses can apply to achieve this certificate. This program, which takes 15 in class instruction hours to complete, will prepare the student to educate future nurses on the practices and procedures in the nursing field.
