Students will take courses in Illness and Disease Management, Legal and Ethical Issues in Nursing, Transition into Professional Nursing for RNs and a capstone course that involves planning and delivering care in the student’s community.

Online Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

The RN to MSN program is an ideal option for registered nurses seeking to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree as the program awards both.  The curriculum of the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs is combined and students can access coursework any time of day.  Core coursework includes Advanced Nursing Practice, Nursing Research Methods and Financial Management for Nurses.

South University also offers a general master’s of science option for nurses who have already earned a bachelor’s degree.  As with the RN to MSN program, all MSN programs at South University offer the Nurse Educator specialization. Teaching and Learning Strategies, Evaluation of Educational Outcomes in Nursing and 2 course practicums in Nursing Education are part of the specialization coursework.

Duration and Cost

The program tuition is $63,908 for both the MSN and RN to MSN programs.  The RN to MSN program requires 213 hours total and the MSN concentration alone requires 48 hours, some of which may be transferred from previous experience or coursework.  The MSN program may be completed in as little as 18 months.  The RN to MSN program may require additional undergraduate fees to earn the BSN portion of the degree.

Faculty at South University hold advanced degrees from select institutions, and include professors with doctoral degrees.

Things to consider:

  • Verify you meet specific and detailed academic requirements with your program of interest
  • Only one degree specialization is offered
  • Students may be required to complete one or more locally based practicums.
