RN Programs in Michigan

Michigan is an excellent place to start a career as a registered nurse (RN). The health care industry in the state always  remains strong during and out of economic downturns.

Unemployment reached record highs recently, making joining a RN program in Michigan a wise decision for individuals seeking to enter the medical field. Even though the general job market is tough, graduates of RN schools in Michigan are able to find gainful employment upon graduation. Completing Michigan registered nursing programs puts graduates in a high-demand career that is expected to be even more in-demand in the coming years as the nursing shortage is expected to increase.

Registered Nurses (RNs) work with patients in many different settings, including hospitals, clinics, schools, factories, and others. Being an RN is a demanding career, but it is also very rewarding. There are two ways to enter this career in the state of Michigan. The first is to complete an Associate Degree RN program. The second way is by completing a Bachelor’s Degree program. Graduates of both types of programs qualify to take the national exam that leads to licensure.

RN Licensure in Michigan

Graduates of an accredited RN program may apply for licensure. Before a license is issued, the graduate must take and pass the NCLEX-RN.

RN Programs in Michigan

Each RN program has its own requirements for admission. The two-year Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) degree and the four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs urge prospective students to apply to their programs one year in advance. This allows enough time for interviews, college visits, and for transferring grades and necessary documents to the RN program.

The following RN programs are four-year programs that lead to a BSN. Some of the nursing schools have very high standards and admit only those with top grades from high school. Other programs are not as strict. College preparatory classes must have been completed in high school for most BSN programs, but it is sometimes possible to take these higher level classes as college-level courses before officially entering the RN program. Most BSN programs do require minimum SAT score of 1,000 or ACT score of 20.
