RN Programs in Kansas
The nursing shortage in Kansas is not as prominent as it is in most other states, nevertheless it is still present in the state and registered nurse (RN) positions are still needing to be filled throughout the state.
RN programs in Kansas can be somewhat difficult to get into due to a shortage of nursing educators. Still, there is work available for graduates of RN schools in Kansas, especially in hospitals located in Kansas’ larger cities. Geriatric nurses are more in-demand than other types of nurses in this state; therefore, students who complete Kansas RN programs commonly find work in home health centers, nursing homes, and large hospitals.
There are two ways to become an RN in the state. The first way is to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) by completing a two-year program. The other way is to complete a four-year RN program to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Both programs qualify graduates to take the national exam that is required to be an RN.
RN Licensure in Kansas
RNs must be licensed in Kansas, but they must first complete an accredited RN program. After graduation, the nurse must apply for licensure. Before it is granted, the graduate must take and pass the NCLEX-RN.

RN Programs in Kansas
RN programs have prerequisites for admission to their schools. Some programs are very selective and require that students have completed college preparatory classes in high school and that they have a GPA of 2.5, 3.0 or higher. Students must also have a minimum GPA in pre-nursing courses to be admitted to the RN program. Many RN programs also require an SAT score of at least 1,000 or ACT score of 20 or 21. Students are urged to apply around one year in advance of the date they would like to begin classes.
If you want to become and RN, and you do not have the necessary college preparatory classes from high school, many RN programs give students the opportunity to take these courses on the college level before being admitted to their RN program. Some community colleges have strict entrance requirements, while others admit anyone who applies to their college.
