Oklahoma State University Oklahoma City Nursing School Review

Oklahoma State University Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) is part of the Oklahoma State University system with universities in Stillwater, Tulsa and Goodwell in addition to Oklahoma City. The university serves over 7,000 students and was founded in 1961 as a Branch of the Stillwater campus. Oklahoma State University Oklahoma City is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Nursing Programs

The ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. Oklahoma State University Oklahoma City offers a general AAS in Nursing option along with several advanced standing and direct articulation tracks for health professionals. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Paramedics are eligible for specific tracks in the nursing program.

Oklahoma State University Oklahoma City Undergraduate Nursing Programs

AAS in Nursing

The AAS in Nursing program prepare nurses for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Admission requirements to the program include a 2.5 GPA or higher in previous coursework, satisfactory score on the nursing entrance exam and completion of course prerequisites. Admission to the AAS in Nursing program is selective and competitive and students are admitted to the program based on the above criteria. The AAS in Nursing program can be completed in 62 credits. The AAS in nursing program requires 69 academic credits. Upon completion of the nursing program, students receive an AAS in Nursing and are eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses, NCLEX-RN, to become a Registered Nurse (RN). The AAS is a type of ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) specifically designed for nurses who want to enter the workforce immediately after completing their degree, rather than earning a four-year degree.

LPN/LVN Advanced Standing

The LPN/LVN advanced standing allows nurses to earn an AAS in Nursing in less time than it would take for a student without previous healthcare experience to earn the degree. Admission requirements to the LPN/LVN advanced standing program include graduation from a practical nursing program approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and a valid and clear practical nursing license. Satisfactory scores in prerequisite courses and on written and admission exams are also necessary for admission in to LPN/LVN advanced standing program. The LPN/LVN advanced standing program may be completed in 3 academic terms. Upon completion of the program, LPN and LVNs earn an AAS in Nursing and are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam.

LPN/LVN Direct Articulation
LPNs and LPNs who graduated from an NLNAC accredited program may enter the nursing program through direct articulation which allows the nurse to bypass some testing and exam requirements. Students should have at least a 2.5 GPA and valid and clear LPN/LVN license to apply to the program. Upon completion of the program, nurses are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam and earn an AAS in nursing. The program may be completed in as little as 3 semesters.

Paramedic to RN Advanced Standing

Paramedics are eligible for advanced standing in the AAS in nursing program based on their previous experience in the healthcare field. Admission requirements to the Paramedic to RN advanced standing program include a minimum 2.5 GPA on previous coursework, satisfactory score on the HESI A2 (nursing entrance exam) and a current paramedic license. Upon completion of the 3 month program, students earn an AAS in Nursing and are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam.
