Capital University is a private Christian University based in the city of Bexley. The university was founded in 1830 and is affiliated with the Lutheran church. Capital University is one of the oldest universities in Ohio. Just over 3,500 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels are enrolled at Capital University.
Capital University offers several nursing masters programs including an ADN to MSN, RN to MSN and traditional MSN programs. The ADN to MSN program is for nurses with a bachelors degree in a non-nursing area, while the RN to MSN program is for nurses with an associate’s degree or diploma who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. The RN to MSN begins with the BSN Completion program and ultimately enrolls students in the MSN program. Applicants should note that students in the accelerated ADN to MSN program will only receive a master’s degree in nursing, and not a bachelor’s degree.

Cedarville University is a Christian university established in the Baptist tradition. All students that earn a degree at Cedarville University are also required to earn a Bible minor. Cedarville University was founded in 1887 with the goal of offering education to Christian students in a Bible-centered format.
Students in the RN to MSN program at Cedarville University can choose from a Family Nurse Practitioner or Global Health Ministries focus. The nursing masters programs at Cedarville University are offered on a full or part time basis. The university aspires to offer a fully online nursing masters program, though the current MSN format does offer flexible options for working nurses. The MSN program can be completed in as little as two years of full time study or in three years of part-time coursework.
Admission requirements to the MSN program at Cedarville University include a BSN and statement of faith. Three recommendations are required including one from a spiritual leader. It is recommended that applicants to the MSN program have at least a 3.0 GPA and career work experience as a nurse. The master of science in nursing program is well-suited to working nurses, as clinical practicum hours can be scheduled around other commitments. The MSN course is 38 credits.
To apply to the MSN program, applicants should have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree earned with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Graduate Record Exam scores are not required for admission to the four MSN tracks, but the dual degree program requires recent GRE or GMAT exam scores. In lieu of reference letters, students are required to list contact information for references. Provisional admission is possible for students who do not meet the 3.0 GPA requirement. A prerequisite course in statistics completed with a grade of “C” or better is also required for admission to the MSN course. The prerequisite course is offered online and may be taken over the summer.

The College of Mount St. Joseph is a private liberal arts college located just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. The college is affiliated with the Catholic faith. The College of Mount Saint Joseph was established by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. The liberal arts college was founded in the year 1920 as a women’s college, but today serves both men and women.
The nursing masters program at the College of Mount St. Joseph is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. In addition to the traditional nursing masters program, the college offers the MAGELIN (Master’s Graduate Entry Level into Nursing) program for college graduates with a non-nursing degree. Administration and education tracks are the two specialization options available in the nursing masters program. The MSN program is offered part-time in a hybrid format (online and campus-based coursework) that caters to the working nurse.
Admission requirements for the RN to MSN program at the College of Mount St. Joseph include a BSN earned with a minimum 3.25 GPA. Applicants who have participated in the MAGELIN program should also have a 3.25 GPA or submit a Graduate Record Exam score. Specialized programs for nurses who have not yet earned bachelors minimize the number of duplicate credits the nurse may encounter while transitioning from undergraduate to graduate coursework. An RN to MSN program is also offered for nurses without a bachelors degree. The BS to MS program allows undergraduate nursing students to take graduate classes that can be added to the graduate level.

Malone University was originally founded in 1892 as a Bible Institute. The university is named for Emma and Walter Malone who founded the institution. Malone University is a Christian, liberal arts university based in Canton.
A Master of Science in Nursing program with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialization is offered at Malone University. Students in the MSN FNP program are eligible to sit the Family Nurse Practitioner certification exam upon completion of the program. The nursing masters program requires two years to complete and does include two summer semesters. Admission requirements to the MSN program at Malone University include a bachelors degree in nursing earned with a 3.0 or higher GPA, and an Ohio nursing license. Admission requirements include a bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited program. The applicant’s undergraduate GPA should be 3.0 or above. It is not a requirement, but is recommended that applicants complete a prerequisite course in statistics. Admission to the nursing masters program at the University of Toledo is competitive and applicants may be subject to an admission interview. All international applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Exam. With the exception of the Nurse Educator program, applicants should have an Ohio nursing license.

A bachelors degree from a nursing program accredited by the CCNE or NLNAC earned with a 3.0 or higher GPA is required for admission.

Both campus-based and online MSN programs are offered at the University of Cincinnati. To apply to the nursing masters programs students should have a bachelor of science degree and a current Registered Nurse license. Depending upon the applicant’s specialty a minimum amount of experience in a specific area of nursing may also be required. Students have two to five years to complete the RN to MSN programs, which are offered on a full or part-time basis. Urbana University is a small liberal arts post-secondary institution. Based in Urbana, the nearest metropolitan areas are Columbus and Dayton. Urbana University was established in 1850 by the Swedenborgian Church.
The RN to MSN program at Urbana University is for nurses with a bachelors degree seeking an MSN. There is also a traditional masters nursing program. A nurse administrator and nurse educator specialization are offered. The CCNE-accredited MSN program is designed to be flexible to accommodate working nurses. Upon graduation from the program, students are eligible to take the certification exam in their area of practice. Students can complete the MSN program in two to three years of full or part time study respectively.
To apply to the traditional nursing masters program, applicants should have a bachelors degree (undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher) in nursing and Ohio nursing license. In addition to the application students should submit a personal essay, three letters of recommendation and be prepared to sit for an admission interview.
Applicants to the RN to MSN program should have a 3.0 overall undergraduate GPA and a 3.5 or higher GPA in the nursing program. Career experience as a nurse is required for the RN to MSN program. Specifically, applicants should have one year of full-time or two years of part-time experience.

The Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland, and specifically Mother Mary of the Annunciation Beaumont established Ursline College in 1871. The college was the first women’s liberal arts college in Ohio, and among the first in the USA. The college is based in Pepper Pike, less than15 miles from Cleveland. The college is affiliated with the Roman Catholic faith.
Nursing programs have been offered at Ursuline College through Breen School of Nursing since 1975. In addition the specializations offered as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Nurse Practitioner, or Clinical Nurse Specialist, students in the MSN program can further specialize in nursing education or palliative care. The Clinical Nurse Specialist program is 39 credits, The Adult Nurse Practitioner program is 43 credits and the Family Nurse Practitioner program is 46 credits. The subspecialties are approximately 9 credits of study in conjunction with the core masters courses.
The nursing masters program can be completed in approximately 5 semesters. Admission requirements include a 3.0 GPA, bachelors degree in nursing, and at least one year of work experience as a nurse. Applicants to the nursing masters program should have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 earned in a BSN program accredited by a nursing body. Applicants to the CNS and NP specialties should have one to two full years of experience as a nurse prior to applying to the nursing program. Each program has varying experience requirements and some programs require experience in a specific department. In addition to the specializations above, students can also pursue a general studies MSN in which they are able to customize their own major. There are several entry points to the nursing masters program. RNs without a bachelors degree can pursue the RN to MSN program and college graduates with a non-nursing degree can enroll in the MIDAS program. There is also an Educational Mobility option for Registered Nurses with a non-nursing bachelors degree.
In general, admission requirements include a current nursing license valid where clinical practicum experience will be performed and an associate degree or diploma in nursing or a bachelors degree. Students who pursue dual degree programs may need to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or GMAT.

Youngstown State University is based in eastern Ohio, approximately 20 miles from the Pennsylvania border. The university was founded in 1908 and enrolls over 15,000 students each year.
The NLNAC-accredited nursing masters program at Youngstown State University offers three specialization options: Clinical Nursing with a School Nursing or Chronic Illness focus and Nurse Anesthesia. The Nurse Anesthesia program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator specializations have also been offered in the past. Upon completion of the RN to MSN program, students are eligible to take the certification exam in their area of practice.
Applicants to the MSN program should have a BSN from an accredited program with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Prerequisite courses that should be completed at the undergraduate level include statistics, health assessment and research. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 and all applicants to the Nurse Anesthesia program are required to submit Graduate Record Exam scores. Applicants to the nursing masters program should have an Ohio state nursing license. Along with the application, transcripts and three letters of recommendation should be submitted.
Provisional admission is awarded on a case-by-case basis to students that do not meet the admission requirements.
