Kansas Nursing Schools

With over 35 different accredited nursing schools, Kansas covers both urban and rural areas. With almost three dozen different campus-based nursing schools available for new students, this means that this state can offer a huge variety of educational and work experiences for motivated nurses.

In addition to its regular campus-based nursing schools, there are also an abundance of distance learning and online programs available for would-be nursing students, to make it even easier for Kansas schools to turn out the number of nurses that are needed to staff the state’s hospitals, private clinics, and other health care facilities.

Kansas’ urban areas are served by large hospitals that can afford to lure nursing students to them with things like tuition reimbursement programs and sign-on bonuses. These aren’t the only nursing jobs available, though, since there are plenty of health care facilities in rural areas that are working hard to lure nurses to them.

Careers for Kansas Nurses

Nursing salaries tend to vary pretty widely across a state, especially states like Kansas that cover both very urban and very rural areas. An RN working in a hospital in Kansas City will earn a median annual salary of roughly $64,500. An RN working in Topeka will earn a median salary of about $61,000. An RN in Wichita will earn a median salary of about $61,500. These medians reflect an actual overall range of about $50,000 to over $70,000. Variations in salary occur for a number of reasons, including geographic location, and what type of health care facility a nurse is employed by. All figures are from the BLS.

Kansas Board of Nursing

Kansas’ Board of Nursing is the primary information source for nurses, students, and educators. Practicing nurses will come to rely on it for news on licensing, examinations, continuing education programs, job opportunities, industry news, health care laws and regulations, and much more. The Kansas State Board of Nursing can be reached on their website or at Landon State Office Building, 900 S.W. Jackson, Ste. 1051, Topeka, KS, 66612.
