Indiana Nursing Schools
Indiana is home to a large number of metropolitan areas, which mean big city hospitals, plenty of nursing jobs, and generous sign-on bonuses. There are over 50 different accredited nursing schools in the state of Indiana, giving numerous options no matter which degree level you are looking for.

Table of Contents
- Existing nurses reaching retirement age without enough new graduates to replace them
- A shortage of qualified nursing teachers
- Poor communication between the healthcare industry and prospective nursing students
- More medical students being encouraged to become doctors instead of nurses
To balance these problems out, Indiana has everything from special financial aid and loan repayment programs, to hospitals with sign-on bonuses, and other employer incentives to lure new nursing graduates to the areas where they’re needed the most.
Careers for Indiana Nurses
Indiana is a good-sized state with a considerable social, economic, and geographic variation. There are some excellent large hospitals in urban areas like Indianapolis, as well as fine community hospitals in less populated areas. As a result of this variation, nursing salaries also vary. For example, an RN working as a hospital staff nurse in Indianapolis will earn a median annual salary of around $65,000. An RN in the same position in Gary will earn around $62,838. These are medians, not averages, so they actually represent a much broader range of potential salaries for nurses- from just over $50,000 to nearly $75,000. All figures are from the BLS.

Use the quick links below to view detailed information on the specific nursing degree you are considering. Includes degree info and school options in your state.
Indiana Board of Nursing
Indiana’s Board of Nursing is the ultimate resource for all things nursing within Indiana’s borders. Both nursing students and practicing nurses should become acquainted with using them as a resource for information on licensing and examinations, continuing education, the scope of nursing guidelines, health law, industry news, approved nursing programs, and more. The Board of Nursing can be reached at the Indiana State Board of Nursing, Professional Licensing Agency, 402 W. Washington St., Room W072, Indianapolis, IN, 46204, or on their website.
Indiana Nursing Degrees & Financial Aid Assistance
Indiana knows that not every student that wants to become a nurse can afford to do so, so there are a lot of monetary incentives in place to attract students to nursing programs. These include loan repayment programs offered through the state, as well as individual nursing schools; employer-based tuition reimbursement programs; generous benefits packages and sign-on bonuses for new graduates, and more. All of these serve as bait for potential nursing students, encouraging more and more of them to enroll in approved nursing programs at every level, from associate’s degrees to doctorates.
