Northeast Technology Center Nursing Program Review

Oklahoma-based Northeast Technology Center (NTC) has four campuses in Afton, Claremore, Kansas and Pryor. Founded in 1968, Northeast Technology Center is part of the Oklahoma Career Technology program that offers career and vocational education to a variety of students in Oklahoma. Northeast Technology Center’s four campuses serve over 18,000 students. The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement accredits Northeast Technology Center. The center is also accredited by the Oklahoma Board of Career and Technology Education.

Northeast Technology Center offers a Practical Nursing and Nursing Assistant program specifically for students desiring a career in the field of nursing.The Practical Nursing Program at Northeast Technology Center is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

Northeast Technology Center Nursing Certificate Programs

Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant program at Northeast Technology Center prepares nurses to work as nurse aides in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals and long-term care centers. Unlike many courses from technology centers, students in the Nursing Assistant program at Northeast Technology Center may receive college credit for their coursework. Upon completion of the Nursing Assistant program, students will earn a certificate as a long-term care/home health aide, eligibility for state certification as a Long Term Care Assistant (LCTA) and advanced standing in the Practical Nursing program. The Nursing Assistant program is completed in 992 hours of study.Students are also eligible for certification as a pharmacy tech and phlebotomist.

Practical Nursing

The Practical Nursing program at Northeast Technology Center prepares students as entry-level nurses to work alongside RNs (Registered Nurses) and other healthcare professionals. Admission requirements to the program include holding a high school diploma or GED, holding a Long Term Care Assistant (LCTA) Certification, and attending a mandatory Practical Nursing information meeting. Other requirements for the Practical Nurse program include CPR for healthcare provider’s certification from the American Heart Association and taking the TABE (Test for Adult Basic Education). Priority acceptance to the Practical Nursing program is given to the students in Craig, Delaware, Mayes, Tulsa, Rogers and Ottawa counties.Students outside of these communities will be admitted to the Practical Nursing program as additional space is available. The Practical Nursing program requires 1,463 hours to complete and must be completed within 15 months of commencement. Upon completion of the Practical Nursing program, students are eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Exam for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).

Practical Nursing Individualized Option

The Practical Nursing Individualized Option allows students to complete the Practical Nursing program in a hybrid option with half of the courses being completed through 20 hours a week of on-campus study and the remaining work completed at home. Students work with a faculty advisor to plan the Individualized Program of study. Students in the Individualized program should note that they are still required to complete the program in 15 months.

Certificates for Nurses at Northeast Technology Center

Northeast Technology Center offers healthcare certificates in specific areas of nursing practice through a partnership with Ed2Go. Nurses can choose from a variety of certificates in specialty areas such as End of Life Care, Alternative Medicine and Gerontology among other things. Certificates are a great way for students to specialize their nursing degree and gain additional skills to better enhance career options.
