Meridian Technology Center Nursing Program Review

Meridian Technology Center (MTC, Meridian Tech) is based in Stillwater, Oklahoma and was founded as a vocational school in 1973. Over 1,500 students are enrolled in technical education programs at Meridian Technology Center including business and nursing. Meridian Tech is part of the Oklahoma state network of career technology centers.  Courses at the Meridian Technology Center are open to adult students and high school students attending a high school involved in a partner program which prepares students for vocational education. Meridian Technology Center is accredited by the Oklahoma Board of Career and Technology Education (OBCTE).

Nursing Programs

Meridian Technology Center offers a Practical Nursing program. The Practical Nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Program

Licensed Practical Nurses are entry level nurses that work under the supervision of RNs (Registered Nurses) and other healthcare professionals. The LPN program at Meridian Technology Center prepares nurses to provide care to patients throughout the lifespan. A wide variety of nursing areas are covered in the LPN program including pediatric nursing, maternity nursing and medical surgical nursing. Admission requirements include submitting an ACT score and transcripts from previous high school and college education experiences. Pre-requisites to the LPN program include completing a basic computer course with a grade of “C” or better and a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certificate. The Practical Nursing program is for adults only. Students in the LPN program are expected to attend courses and clinical practicum experiences at least 30 hours each week. The LPN program can be completed in 1463 hours. The course and clinical practicum experiences take place Monday through Friday. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses, the NCLEX-PN.

Advanced Placement/Transfer Credit for the LPN Program

Students who have previous healthcare education or experience may be eligible for advanced standing in the LPN program. Students who receive advanced placement credit are eligible to move ahead through some aspects of the nursing program. Students who have previous coursework or experience and would like to receive credit for the LPN program should contact an advisor prior to entering the program to verify credit may be earned.

Online Certificate Courses offered at Meridian Technology Center

Online certificate courses are offered through Ed2Go. Nurses may take courses in fields such as Integrative Mental Health among other topics. Interested students should consult the online course list as offerings may change.

Extracurricular Activities at Meridian Technology Center

Students at Meridian Technology Center have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities in addition to education programs. Students may participate in general extracurricular activities such as the Leadership Class, which trains students to develop Leadership skills. Subject-specific student organizations include Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, and Business Professionals of America. Careers Expos and charity events are also a regular part of student life at Meridian Technology Center.
