LPN Programs In Florida

It’s no big surprise that licensed practical nurses (and other healthcare professionals) are in ever increasing demand in Florida. However, while there are jobs aplenty, and this is a fast and relatively easy way into a relatively high paying career, there are still a few things you need to bear in mind.

Table of Contents

State Approval for Florida LPN Training Programs

The first thing you need to be aware of, when you consider training as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Florida, is that you’re only eligible for registration if you complete a Florida Board of Nursing approved training course. Not all courses are approved, so make sure you check before you apply to gain admission.

Where to Find Approved LPN Training In Florida

You will find approved LPN courses at colleges, community colleges and adult education facilities throughout Florida. If you are in doubt, the Florida Board of Nursing does keep an up to date list of courses that are accredited.

What Does Florida LPN Training Entail?

Like LPN training throughout the US, LPN training in Florida is designed to give you all of the practical and theoretical skills and knowledge to handle the practical nature of the LPNs job. You will learn everything from the very basics, like patient feeding and care, to much more advanced concepts, like pharmacology and anatomy.

You will undergo clinical training, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) during your course, as well as class room studies, and lab work. In fact, once you have completed your studies, you should be able to cope with any LPN position, at any hospital, clinic, long term care facility or medical practice in the state.

Registering As An LPN In Florida

Once you have completed your approved Florida LPN training course, the next step is to take and pass the NCLEX-PN exam, and to register as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Florida.

Working As An LPN in Florida

Once you start work as an LPN in Florida, you will be reporting to an RN or in some cases to a doctor. You will have a hands on role in patient care, and have the opportunity to help people who need it. It’s a great job for people who like working with people, and it does provide the opportunity for career improvement, thanks to further training. In fact, it’s quite common for LPN’s to train as RN’s or in hospital administration and management later on.

The average salary for an LPN in Florida (in a big city like Miami) is around $40,000 per annum, but there are LPN’s who earn more or less than that.
