Online  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

Nurses holding an associates degree may enroll in the online Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree program through Loyola University New Orleans. Courses for the program include:

Health Assessment, Nursing Leadership, Spirituality in Health and Illness, Issues in Professional Nursing, Population Health, and Advance Topics in Nursing Practice.

Duration and Cost

The course requires 121 credits, the last 30 of which must be completed through Loyola.  Course tuition is $702 per credit hour.  The average yearly cost of a student not living on campus is $33,552 per year.

Online Master’s Degree in Nursing

Loyola University New Orleans offers a traditional online Master’s Degree in Nursing as well as a BLEND program, which is comparable to most RN to MSN programs. The online master’s degree in Nursing offers a Health Care Systems Management
specialization.  The specialization trains nurses to take leadership positions in a variety of healthcare settings.  The BLEND program is a short course for nurses with a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing.

Duration and Cost

The course requires 36 credits and can normally be completed in 24 months.  The BLEND bridge program is 6 credits, and requires 1 semester to complete.  Students then can move on to the traditional master’s program.  Course tuition is $702 per credit hour.

Online Doctoral Degrees in Nursing

The Doctoral Degree in Nursing program (DNP) offers several options for degreed nurses seeking to advanced their education and career opportunities.  The post-MSN program offers specialization as a Nurse Practitioner, while the post-Bachelor’s option offers specialization as a family nurse practitioner.

Duration and Cost

The course requires 38 to 76 credit hours depending on if the nurse holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree specialization.  Course tuition is $702 per credit hour.

Faculty

Nursing faculty at Loyola University New Orleans hold advanced degrees and currently hold a doctoral degree or are enrolled in a doctoral program.  Some hold degrees in other fields such as law.

Things to consider:

  • Loyola University New Orleans does not offer lower division nursing courses; students must earn and transfer in their undergraduate coursework from another institution.
  • Students may enter BSN program in one of three start dates, Summer, Spring or Fall.
  • Programs may require a campus visit.
  • Doctor of Nursing programs is not yet accredited; the results of the accreditation visit by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) will be known by the Spring.

Accreditation

 Loyola University New Orleans’ bachelor’s and master’s nursing degree programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN). The Master of Science degree program for Nurse Practitioners is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
