Nursing Program

Kutztown University’s nursing program was established in 1977 to prepare students for the demanding and rapidly expanding professional field of nursing. Students are able to pursue their education through full time or part time programs and can choose from three different courses of nursing study to meet their particular needs and aspirations.

RN to BSN Completion Program

This program was designed to allow licensed registered nurses to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Earning this degree can offer career advancement and prepare for even further training and experience. The RN to BSN Completion Program is offered on a part time basis so that RNs can continue to work as they go to school. Unlike other nursing programs, each student is permitted individual course progression under the supervision of a personal advisor. The program takes between two and three years to complete, depending on whether the student chooses classroom or online instruction, and is comprised of 120 semester hours. For admission the student must present proof of graduation from an RN program, a copy of her Registered Nurse license and official transcripts from previous learning institutions.

Master of Science in Nursing Education Program

The MSN program prepares students for even further degrees of career advancement through earning a graduate degree. The two courses offered within this program allow the successful graduate to choose specialization in either Nursing Education or Clinical Nurse Leadership to best fit their particular personalities and professional aspirations. The Master’s program consists of 36 hours, split evenly between core and specialty courses. There are educational and application requirements for admission, including among other things a valid RN license, 2 years or more of professional experience, three recommendation letters and a personal interview. Applicants must also submit an extensive personal letter that outlines their individual educational and professional aspirations, applicable experience and credentials, and statement of intent.

School Nurse Certification Program

The school nurse is an important member of the medical field and earning certification in this area represents the opportunity for a rewarding career. To earn these certification students must be in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or be post-baccalaureate. Interested applicants must also hold a valid RN license and have minimum grade point credentials for admission into the program. Through completion of this program graduates are able to seek employment as a professional nurse within the school system. These nurses tend to ill or injured students, as well as those with chronic conditions in need of regular attention.

Successful completion of any of the programs offers graduates the opportunity to pursue careers in the rapidly growing field of nursing care. Positions are available in medical offices, hospitals, private services, schools and even military service.
