Online Nursing and Health Care Degrees Review

Nursing programs at Jacksonville University emphasize scholarly inquiry, clinical application and a liberal arts foundation.

Online Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

The online RN to BSN degree program was designed for nurses with busy family lives. Nurses can transfer up to 30 credits from their previous RN coursework, and take courses from anywhere they have internet access.  Course format includes video lectures and chat rooms.  Students will complete local practicums, eliminating the need for travel to a university.  Classes are asynchronous, meaning students can study course material according to their schedule; and no specific login times are required for the courses.  Core courses in the program include community focused professional nursing, advance acute care concepts, and nursing assessment for the practicing nurse.  Elective courses are offered in global health and alternative therapies.

Duration and Cost

The program requires 120 credits total (30 of which may be transferred from previous RN education), and tuition is approximately $438 per credit hour.  The course can be completed in as little as 2 years.

Online Master’s Degree in Nursing

Jacksonville University’s online master’s degree in nursing offers two specializations Nursing Education and Leadership in Healthcare Systems.  The master’s program is taught by faculty holding doctoral degrees.  Students in the master’s program will study a specialized course related to their concentration and career options include serving as Nurse Administrator, Nurse Executive or Nurse Professional Development Coordinator. Core courses in the nursing master’s program include nursing theory and research, advanced community health, and nursing topical electives.  Students are required to complete a practicum and research-based thesis.  Nursing Education specialization courses include grant writing and resource development, educational technology, and management of information technology.  Core courses in the Leadership and Healthcare specialization include nursing leadership and health policy, financial management of nursing systems, and quality and safety in healthcare.

Duration and Cost

The program requires approximately 24 months to complete.  Students also have the option of taking up two sessions off, and also take two courses simultaneously depending on their personal schedule and timeline for completing their program.  Tuition is approximately $618 per credit.
