Nursing Program
Nursing is one of the fastest growing professions in the contemporary workforce. Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Nursing Program strives to develop nursing professionals with the technical skills and medical knowledge, as well as the communication and interpersonal relationship capabilities, to make them the most effective at their chosen field. Students have many Nursing options from which to choose, beginning at the entry level and progressing through appropriate stages to the prestigious doctoral level.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
The BSN Program offers a course of study combining general education and fundamental nursing instruction to prepare students for licensure as Registered Nurses. The program is structured into semesters that progress in complexity. The first part of the program offer primarily Liberal Arts instruction to provide a basis of course work and basic information on which the further Nursing information will build. The larger second portion of the course of study includes supervised clinical experiences that give students hands-on learning to practice concepts mirrored in the theoretical lecture portion. Students can choose between a four- and five-year course of study to fit in with their schedule and goals.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing LPN Track
Licensed Practical Nurses wishing to advance their training to a Bachelor degree level are eligible for an accelerated program through which they are able to apply their knowledge and experience toward the course work of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Successful completion of this program allows graduates to sit for exams that would grant them licensing as Registered Nurses.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing RN Track
Similar to the LPN Track, this program allows licensed Registered Nurses to apply the education of their previous course of study to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. This degree enhances the nurse’s credentials and qualifies him to take on increased responsibility and enhanced roles within his field of choice. This program can be completed at a flexible rate to accommodate other professional and personal obligations.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
The MSN Program at IUP offers students enhanced career potential through more complex instruction in Nursing concepts and deeper understanding of communication, administration and interpersonal skills. Students wishing to pursue this type of degree must first hold an undergraduate degree and demonstrate aptitude to benefit from furthered instruction. Admitted students can choose between two specializations that will give concentrated study in a specific area that will determine the career pursuits in which they will engage.
Ph.D. in Nursing
Exceptionally motivated students can reach the pinnacle of Nursing education by engaging in doctoral level instruction. Successful completion of this program earns graduates a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing degree, preparing them for upper level careers in powerful leadership roles. All students entering the program at the same time will take required courses together. Only electives will divide the cohort. The full course can be completed in a series of eight semesters. Applicants to this PhD in nursing program must already have an MSN or related Masters degree and submit a personal letter containing career aspirations, achievements and research interests.
