While most institutions only offer an option for RN to BSN, Indiana State University offers separate RN to BSN and LVN/LPN to BSN programs. In either case, students complete the entire degree online. A unique feature of the programs allows students to take “challenge exams” in which students are given credit for passing tests in a given subject in lieu of taking the course. This is valuable for nurses who have acquired knowledge and skills on the job, and may not need certain classes.
The degree program consists of 35-81 credits depending on the program and how many credits are transferred in. Tuition fees range from 3,891-4,522 per semester depending on the number of credits taken. Students enrolled less than full time pay $282 per credit.

Recent master’s graduates are trained to put their learning in the Family Nurse Practitioner course, while receiving advanced training and leadership skills. The program’s curriculum is based upon DNP curriculum as approved by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
