Since 1951, University of Arkansas Grantham has been providing affordable and flexible education options for students who would not otherwise be able to complete higher education, including first-generation college students and military personnel.  University of Arkansas Grantham was founded by a WWII veteran who sought to level the playing field for students who sought college education but didn’t have the time or money to complete traditional degree programs.  University of Arkansas Grantham now has over 38-degree programs that award associates to master’s degrees.

Bachelor’s Degree Options

Registered nurses without a bachelor’s degree may opt into the RN to BSN program to accelerate their career options.  Common occupations that the BSN can lead to include lecturer posts, mid-wife positions, and leadership roles in nursing.  In this era of increased competitiveness among job applicants, nurses with a 4-year degree will increase their skills, knowledge base, and opportunity for advanced career options.

Course and Curriculum Description

The bachelor’s degree in nursing program is developed according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN), Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice publication. Course curriculum includes health management, case management, theories and research in nursing, and transition to professional nursing.

Duration and Cost

The RN to BSN program is 48 months. Tuition and fees for the program are a total of $32,860.

Online Master’s Degree in Nursing

Master’s Degree Options

Registered nurses without a bachelor’s degree may opt into the RN to MSN program to receive their master’s degree at an accelerated rate.  Nurses already in possession of a bachelor’s degree may enter the general master’s program. In either case, students choose from four-degree specializations.

Course and Curriculum Description

Students in the online RN to MSN Bridge program take 21 credits of undergraduate coursework (similar to the BSN program) in addition to courses in student success and business management.  Depending on the specialization, nurses will take courses in:

  • Clinical and administrative systems and case management and evidence-based practice (Case Management).
  • Curriculum development and organizational dynamics of higher education (Nursing Education).
  • Project and change management and information, security and privacy in healthcare (Nursing Informatics).
  • Human resources management and strategic management and planning (Nursing Management and Organizational Leadership).

All nurses will take courses in foundations of advanced nursing and legal and ethical issues of nursing.

Program Details

The Master’s of Science in nursing offers four specializations common among online master’s in nursing programs. The four specializations are Case Management, Nursing Education, Nursing Informatics, and Nursing Management and Organizational Leadership.

Duration and Cost

Master’s degrees are 24 months. The MSN and RN-MSN tuition and fees for the two-year program ranges from $12,190 – $19,135.


All University of Arkansas Grantham nursing faculty hold advanced degrees and approximately half hold doctoral degrees.

Things to consider:

  • Students in the RN-MSN program do not earn a BSN in the course of completing undergraduate coursework.
  • Students in the RN to MSN program must maintain a 3.0 GPA in a nursing coursework.
