The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) – Health Occupations Education Nurse Aide Office is the body tasked with overseeing the nurses aide training programs in the state. North Carolina differs here too though, because there are different ‘grades’ of training that you can apply for, that entitle you to employment in different grades too. The first, and the one recommended for a new CNA is the Nurse Aide I program.

What Can You Expect from CNA Programs in North Carolina?

North Carolina CNA courses must cover a minimum of 75 hours of practical and theoretical training. Training courses are offered by schools, colleges, nursing homes and medical facilities, as well as private companies. Just remember, however, that clinical training in the field will need to be supervised by a trained nursing professional, so make sure that’s included in the course.

The course covers everything a CNA needs to know to work as a certified nurses aide in the state – patient care, nursing, administrative and reporting issues and terminology.

Certification As a Nurses Aide in North Carolina

Although it is possible to work as a nurses aide in North Carolina without training and certification, it’s unlikely that you will get the kind of position you are looking for without them. Not being certified will limit your earning potential, and the jobs you can apply for.
