Clarion University of Pennsylvania Nursing School Review

Since its creation in 1867 Clarion University has offered superior education in a beautiful setting. At any given moment there are around 7,000 students taking courses with the highly qualified faculty that provides instruction in small, focused classes. Over 150 student organizations offer tremendous opportunity for social involvement throughout students’ educational career.

Nursing Program

The Nursing Department at Clarion University of Pennsylvania (CUP) offers interested students several options for pursuing an education in professional nursing. This education can prepare a student for a career, or offer already established nurses with furthered educational opportunities as to advance their careers. This fully accredited program provides all of the training and knowledge needed to compete in the fast-paced world of nursing.

Associate of Science in Nursing

This degree is earned through a rigorous program designed to present information both through classroom lectures and clinical experiences. Successful graduates of this four semester program are prepared to sit for the exam necessary to be licensed as a Registered Nurse. The curriculum is a combination of general education requirements and core nursing courses that can be completed in two years.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The BSN program from Clarion University of Pennsylvania is a fully online program meant to further the education of an Associate’s degree. This program is intended for registered nurses that wish to enhance their current knowledge and skill set through professional-level training. Full time students can complete the four semester curriculum in two years. A part time option is also available during which students can study for six semesters over three years. Four- and five-year part-time options are also available covering seven and ten semesters respectively. These extended curriculums allow working RNs to pursue their educational goals while still fulfilling their other obligations.

Master of Science in Nursing

Students entering this program have two options for concentrations, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Nurse Educator. Earning a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in either of these areas prepares a student for an advanced career in the field of nursing. A Family Nurse Practitioner concentration allows a successful graduate to take the exams needed to become a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. These professionals are able to provide primary care in medical offices and facilities under the supervision of a physician. This concentration is comprised of 45 credit hours.

A Nurse Educator concentration prepares students to seek careers educating future nurses at various levels. Successful graduates will have the skills to plan, prepare and implement courses of instruction. This concentration is comprised of 36 credit hours and will enable graduates to sit for the Educator exams.

Post-Master’s Certificate Programs

Registered Nurses already holding a Master degree are eligible to seek further certification through a Post-Master’s Certificate Program intended to prepare the student for the Nurse Educator or Family Nurse Practitioner exams.

The Nursing Program at Clarion University of Pennsylvania offers its graduates a strong foundation of learning, and a progressive series of courses that allow students to achieve ever-higher aspirations in their field.
