Cardinal Stritch University (CSU) was founded in 1937 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi and is a comprehensive and coeducational establishment. Students who attend Cardinal Stritch University are of all faiths and the school consists of a number of colleges, including; College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Management, College of Education and Leadership and the Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing.
Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing
The Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing provides a variety of nursing degrees from the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), through to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). The Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing has graduates over 1,000 students in over 10 years. Individuals who enroll at Cardinal Stritch University’s nursing school, can use previous college credit and prior learning and work experience for credits against their nursing education. The nursing school is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing.
Individuals attending the Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing are able to obtain their Registered Nursing (RN) licensure, by completing the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ADN). Individuals are also able to obtain their Registered Nurse licensure by completing baccalaureate education through the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The Associate of Science Degree in Nursing is for individuals who wish to enter the profession of nursing for the first time. Individuals who graduate from this program can go on to write the National Council Licensure Examination – Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN), in order to become licensed as a Registered Nurse. The program is two and a half years in duration and takes place during the daytime.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Program is intended to prepare individuals who hold an Associate Degree in Nursing or are already a Registered Nurse to practice nursing at a professional level, with baccalaureate education. The program can be completed in two years, at an advanced level, and is conducted in the evenings, in order to cater to individuals who are employed as Registered Nurses.
The Master of Science in Nursing program at the Ruth S. Coleman School of Nursing at Cardinal Stritch University is intended for individuals working in the nursing profession. Individuals who complete this program can go on to work as nurse educators after they have completed this two and a half year program, which is conducted under an accelerated format during the evenings, and one night per week. Individuals who complete this program are usually employed and the accelerated evening format allows individuals to continue working while completing their education.
All of the nursing programs at the Ruth S. Coleman School of Nursing at Cardinal Stritch University are completed at the Milwaukee campus. All of the programs are composed of a combination of in-class lectures, lab work and clinical practicum at a variety of healthcare establishments in the Milwaukee area, including; hospitals, long-term care facilities, physicians’ offices, hospices and a variety of other healthcare institutions.
