Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Nursing School Review

Bloomsburg University is a higher education institution based in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania that provides higher education to over 9,000 students.  The university was founded in 1839. Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania (BU, Bloom) is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Nursing Programs

Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Undergraduate Nursing Programs

BSN (Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing)

The BSN program is designed for students without previous nursing education,

Admission requirements to the BSN program include a minimum score of 1100 on the SATs and a class rank of 25% or higher. Upon completion of the BSN program, students earn a BSN and are eligible take the NCLEX-RN (National Council for Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

RN to BSN (Registered Nurse to Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing)

The RN to BSN program is a degree completion program for licensed RNs. RNs have several options for earning advanced standing in the BSN program. RNs can earn credit through CLEP (College Level Equivalency Examination Program), faculty prepared nursing examinations, articulation agreements or directly transferring courses. Upon completion of the undergraduate nursing program, students earn a BSN.

Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Graduate Nursing Programs

MSN (Master of Science in Nursing)

The MSN program offers four specialization options: Nurse Practitioner, Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner (AFNP), Community Health Nurse, Nurse Anesthetist or Nursing Administration. The graduate nursing program can be completed in 42 to 66 credits for specialization. Upon completion of the graduate nursing program, students earn an MSN and are eligible to take the certification exam relevant to their specific specialization.

RN to MSN (Registered Nurse to Master of Science in Nursing)

Registered Nurse with an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or diploma are eligible to earn the MSN directly in the RN to MSN program. Admission requirements for the RN to MSN program include a minimum 3.0 GPA, an RN license, and a minimum of one year experience within the past year. The program is 150 credits total, and upon completion of the program, students earn a BSN and MSN.

MSN for nurses practicing as CRNA, CRNP, or CNM

Nurses with advanced certification such as CRNA, CRNP or CNM may receive credit for their previous experiences. Nurses with these certifications can complete the additional courses required to earn the MSN in just 30 credits.

M.S.N. for nurses practicing as a Certified School Nurse

Students with a School Nurse Certification can take courses in the MSN program without repeating clinical experience. School Nurses in the MSN program are given credit for their previous clinical nursing experience.

Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Nursing Certificate Programs

Post-MSN (Post Master of Science in Nursing)

Students who already have a master’s degree may take courses in the MSN program towards NP (Nurse Practitioner) certification. The Post-MSN program prepares nurses to become an Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner. Upon completion of the Post-MSN program, students are eligible to take the certification exam in their specialization.

Continuing Education Courses in Nursing

Bloomsburg University offers continuing education courses for licensed RNs seeking to advance their skills and expertise in the nursing profession. Past course topics have included spirituality and hypertension. The nursing department is approved to offer continuing education courses by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association.
