South Dakota State University is a public university located on a 286-acre campus in Brookings, South Dakota near the Missouri River, with additional campuses in Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen. Founded in 1862, it is South Dakota’s oldest public university. Today it offers over 200 academic programs with an enrollment of over 12,000 students. The School of Nursing offers three tracks for earning the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
The Accelerated Option is designed for students who have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and wish to pursue a professional nursing career. This second degree BSN program is 12 months long and is offered only in Sioux Falls. Clinical experiences take place in healthcare facilities in the greater Sioux Falls community. To qualify for this accelerated BSN degree program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a non-nursing major and must have completed all required SDSU General Education courses and the following pre-nursing classes: Chemistry Survey and Lab, Introduction to Sociology, General Psychology, Organic and Biochemistry with Lab, Anatomy with Lab, Lifespan Development, General Microbiology with Lab, Human Nutrition, Physiology with Lab, and Statistics. The application deadline is in January for August entry.
The same option is available in Aberdeen, SD, and begins in January of each year.

University of Sioux Falls is a private, Christian liberal arts university located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches. Founded in 1883, it was originally called the Dakota Collegiate Institute. Today the University of Sioux Falls offers 35 undergraduate majors and enrolls1,600 students. The School of Nursing offers three tracks for earning the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The 2nd Degree Accelerated program allows students to earn a BSN degree after 15 months. It includes a combination of classroom instruction and clinical experiences in healthcare facilities in the Sioux Falls area. To qualify for this BSN accelerated degree program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the 6 prerequisite classes.
