Fairleigh Dickinson University is a private institution located in Madison, New Jersey with additional campuses in Teaneck and Madison, New Jersey, as well as in Canada and Great Britain. It was founded in 1942 by Peter and Sally Sammartino, and named in honor of Col. Fairleigh S. Dickinson.

Originally a junior college, Fairleigh Dickinson is now the largest private university in the New Jersey with an annual enrollment of over 12,000 students. It was also the first university in the United States to have a campus in England. The Henry P. Becton School of Nursing and Allied Health offers the Accelerated BSN program that allows students to achieve the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree on an abbreviated schedule. It has clinical affiliations with over 30 hospitals in the area making it convenient for students to complete required clinical work. To qualify for this BSN second degree programthe student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing. In addition, the student must have completed the following prerequisite classes: Human Anatomy and Physiology, General Chemistry, Microbiology, ­Statistics, Microeconomics or Macroeconomics, and Bioethics. Felician College is a Catholic college located in Lodi, New Jersey with a second campus in Rutherford. It was founded in 1923 by the Felician Sisters as the Immaculate Conception Normal School. Today Felician College has over 50 degree programs with an annual enrollment of over 2,000 students. The Felician College Division of Nursing & Health Management’s Accelerated BSN degree program allows qualified students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in just 18 months. The program is organized into six 12-week sessions that include both classroom instruction and clinical experience. To qualify for this ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the 32 hours of prerequisite coursework. The nursing program at New Jersey City University is part of the College of Professional Studies. The Accelerated BSN Program offers a comprehensive nursing education that allows qualified students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in just 12 months. Like the traditional BSN program this 2nd degree accelerated BSN program combines classroom instruction with enriching clinical experiences at health facilities throughout New Jersey. To qualify for this program, the student must be a college graduate and must have taken the 5 prerequisite classes. The application deadlines change each year and are posted on the New Jersey City University website in the fall.

Rutgers, The University of New Jersey (Rutgers University), is the largest university in the state of New Jersey. It is located in Newark, New Jersey, with additional campuses in Camden and New Brunswick. Founded in 1766 as Queen’s College, Rutgers University is the 8th oldest university in the United States. Today Rutgers University has over 58,000 students in 28 schools and colleges. Rutgers College of Nursing was established in 1955 and holds classes in both Newark and New Brunswick. The College of Nursing offers an Accelerated Second Degree BS in Nursing that allows qualified students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree after 14 months of study. The curriculum combines traditional classroom study, clinical experience and online classes. To qualify for this accelerated second degree BSN program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing. In addition, the student must have completed the 11 prerequisite classes with a grade of “C” or better. The application deadline is in February.

Seton Hall University is a private, Catholic institution located in the South Orange, New Jersey, about 30 minutes from New York City. Founded 1856 by Archbishop James Roosevelt Bayley, it is named after Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint. It is the oldest and largest Catholic university in New Jersey. Seton Hall now has an enrollment of 9,800 undergraduate and graduate students.

Seton Hall began to offer nursing classes in 1937, and the College of Nursing was established in 1940. The College of Nursing offers 2 programs that allow qualified students to earn the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at after a shortened period of study. The BSN Second Degree program is a 22-month program, while the BSN Accelerated program requires 14 months of study. The BSN Accelerated program is offered in conjunction with Georgian Court University. Classes take place at the Georgian Court campus in Lakewood, New Jersey. To qualify for admission both of these accelerated BSN programs require that the student have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing. In addition, the student must have completed the 7 prerequisite classes. The application deadline for the BSN Second Degree program is in April for the fall semester and in October for the spring semester. The application deadline for the BSN Accelerated program is in April.

The University of Medicine & Dentistry is a public institution in New Jersey with campuses in Newark, Stratford, New Brunswick, Piscataway, Camden, and Scotch Plains. Originally a part of Seton Hall University, the State of New Jersey acquired it in 1965. Effective July 1, 2013, the school will merge with Rutgers University and will be known as the Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health Sciences. The School of Nursing offers the Accelerated BSN Programthat allows qualified students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing after 15 months of full-time, intensive study. It is designed for students who have already earned a bachelors degree in another field. Classes are held on the Newark and Stratford campuses. To qualify for this BSN second degree program, in addition to already holding a bachelors degree, the student must have completed the 7 prerequisite classes. The application deadline is in September for the spring semester, February for the summer semester and June for the fall semester.
