Cox College is private health sciences college located in Springfield, Missouri. It was established in 1909 as the Burge Deaconess Training School for Nurses, but closed in 1945. It reopened in 1951 with the help of Lester E. Cox. The school’s name was later changed to the Lester L. Cox College of Nursing and Health Sciences and then to Cox College to honor Lester Cox. Cox College now offers several health-related certificate and degree programs.

The BSN program Accelerated Option is available to students who have received a bachelors degree in another field from a regionally accredited college or university. Because of the academic rigor of this accelerated, 16-month BSN program, students must enroll full-time and outside employment is discouraged. In addition to having a bachelors degree, in order to qualify for admission into this second degree BSN program applicants must have taken the prerequisite coursework. The application deadline is in August.

The Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes Jewish College is a private, Jewish institution located in St. Louis, Missouri. It was founded in 1902 as the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing. In 2007, after receiving a donation from philanthropist Alvin Goldfarb, the school changed its name to the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College. The Goldfarb School offers the Accelerated Option to students with a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing. This accelerated BSN program involves 12-months of intensive study. The curriculum includes 40-50 hours each week of classroom, lab and clinicals. Clinical experiences are held at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center and other local health care facilities. Admission requirements include having a bachelors degree with a GPA of at least 2.0 and having completed the prerequisite coursework. The prerequisites include Anatomy and Physiology I with lab, Anatomy and Physiology II with lab, Microbiology with lab, Nutrition, Statistics, General Psychology and Human Growth and Development.

Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) is a public institution school located in Joplin, Missouri. It was established in 1937 as Joplin Junior College. In 1977 it was renamed Missouri Southern State University to reflect its expansion into a comprehensive four year college. It is now organized into four schools: the School of Education, the School of Technology, the School of Arts & Sciences, and the Robert W. Plaster School of Business Administration. The nursing program at MSSU is part of the School of Technology. It offers the Accelerated BSN Track to students who have already earned a bachelors degree, but wish to pursue a BSN degree. The program is approximately 14 months long and requires full-time attendance. To qualify for admission, the student must have taken the 6 pre-nursing classes. The application deadline is in January of each year.

The Research College of Nursing is a private institution located in Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 1905 as the German Hospital Training School for Nurses, 10 years later the name was changed to the Research College of Nursing. In 1979 the Research College of Nursing formed a partnership with Rockhurst College, a liberal arts school, in order to offer a joint Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The two schools now also jointly offer the Accelerated BSN Option that allows qualified students to earn the BSN degree in 12 months. To qualify for admission, in addition to having a bachelor degree, applicants must also have completed the prerequisite coursework, including 15 credits at Rockhurst University. Students are encouraged to begin the application process for this BSN accelerated program 1½ – 2 years in advance in order to have time to complete any necessary prerequisite classes. The application deadline is in April.

Saint Louis University is private, Jesuit institution located in the Lindell’s Grove section of St. Louis, Missouri. It was founded in 1818 as Saint Louis Academy by the Most Reverend Louis Guillaume Valentin Dubourg, Bishop of Louisiana and the Floridas. Since then the school’s academic curricula has expanded to include over 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, offered in 18 schools and colleges. Established in 1971, the Saint Louis School of Nursing was the first to offer an ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program. This 2nd degree accelerated BSN program is an intensive 12-month program geared toward students who already have a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing or students who have earned at least 77 credit hours. The applicant must also have taken the 8 prerequisite courses and received a “C” or better prior to matriculation. The application deadline is in May.

The University of Missouri is a public university located on a 1250-acre campus in Columbia, Missouri. With more than 5,000 trees and 650 varieties of plants, the campus has been designated as a “botanic garden.” The University of Missouri is organized into 19 schools and colleges and offers over 100 degree programs. The University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing traces its roots to 1920 when the nursing program was part of the School of Medicine. In 1973 it became an autonomous school and its name was later changed to the Sinclair School of Nursing in honor of Charles and Josie Smith Sinclair who provided the school with substantial financial support. The Accelerated Bachelors Degree in Nursing Program is a 15-month option for students who hold bachelors degrees in fields other than nursing. It begins in May and ends in July of the following year. To qualify for this second degree accelerated BSN program, the student must also have taken the 7 science and statistics prerequisite courses with a GPA of at least a “C”. The application deadline is in October.

The University of Missouri- St. Louis is a public institution that is part of the University of Missouri System. It was established in 1960 as a junior college. It is now a comprehensive university organized into 9 schools and colleges, offering 54 bachelors degree programs, 37 masters degree programs, and 15 doctoral degree programs. The School of Nursing offers a 15-month BSN Accelerated Option designed for students who already have a bachelors degree in an area other than nursing, who have completed general education coursework. In order to be admitted to this BSN second degree program, the student must have completed the 17 prerequisite classes. The application deadlines are in September for Early Admit and in February for Final Admit. Preferential consideration is given to students who meet the Early Admit deadline.

William Jewell College is private, non-sectarian college located in Liberty, Missouri. It was founded in 1849 by Robert S. James, a Baptist minister, and other members of the Missouri Baptist Convention. The college was named in honor of Dr. William Jewell who provided funding to help establish it. William Jewell College maintained its affiliation with the Baptist Convention until 2003 when it became an independent school.

The School of Nursing at William Jewell College offers 3 options for obtaining the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, including both a 12-month and 16-month BSN Accelerated Track. To qualify for an Accelerated Track, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the 7 prerequisite classes with a grade of “C” or better in each of the classes. The application deadline is in August for the 12-month program and March for the 16-month program.
