The University of Mississippi Medical Center is the health sciences campus of the University of Mississippi.  Located in Jackson, Mississippi, it is the only academic health sciences school in the state of Mississippi.  It includes the School of Nursing, the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Health Related Professions and the School of Graduate Studies.

The School of Nursing was established in 1948 and is the state’s oldest nursing school.  It is affiliated with over 200 hospitals clinics and other medical facilities, providing students with extensive opportunities for clinical experience.

The School of Nursing offers both a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program and the Accelerated BSN program (ABSN).  This 15-month accelerated 2nd degree BSN program is geared toward students who have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and would like to now pursue a career in nursing.  Students entering this program must have completed the 63 hours of prerequisite classwork, including the general education classes that are typically completed while earning the first bachelors degree.  All other prerequisite science and math classes may be completed at the university, college or community college of the student’s choice. These classes include General Chemistry I with lab, Biology Elective with lab¸ Microbiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology I with lab, Human Anatomy and Physiology II with lab, College Algebra or higher-level math, Introduction to Computer Use, and Statistics. The application deadline is in January.
