Online Nursing and Health Care Degrees Review

Online programs at Stenberg College are available in combined and fully online formats to meet student’s needs.  Programs are focused on the Canadian healthcare system.  The Advanced Leadership Certificate is offered online for already licensed nurses seeking advanced leadership opportunities. The practical and psychiatric nursing programs offer campus-based programs for nurses.  The nursing unit clerk program allows students with a desire to perform clerical functions in the hospital setting to function as administrative assistants to nurses.  Students who participate in nursing programs at Stenberg College are eligible for free ESL classes.

Online Certificates in Nursing

The Advanced Leadership Certificate offers Licensed Practical Nurses the opportunity to obtain training necessary to assume health care roles in the Canadian health care system.  The course is 10 weeks long and tuition is $600.  The course can be completed entirely online or in a combined format (on-campus and online).

The Practical Nurse Certificate program is 51 weeks including all courses and the required clinical practicum.  Nurses in this course will learn how to administer medication, assess and monitor patients, educate patients regarding health care issues and assist in patient rehabilitation. The program tuition begins at $19,500.

The regional Psychiatric Nursing Certificate program is designed primarily for nurses in rural areas who normally would not have the ability and access to leave their area for further education. This course makes all theoretical courses available online and requires nurses to complete practicums in their local region of Canada.  The course is currently scheduled to start in March 2012 in select areas.  Please confirm that your program of interest is available in your area. The program is 101 weeks. The program tuition begins at $19,500.

Nursing Clerks fulfill basic administrative duties for nurses that could not normally be fulfilled by a nurse due to a busy schedule.  Nursing Clerks positions are not for the light of heart, as the position is under frequent stress and frequently in the “eye of the storm”.  The program also seeks to enhance personal skills and development to cope with such stressful situations.  A Nursing Unit Clerk advisory committee meets regularly to ensure that the program courses are up to date.  The program is 37 weeks. The program tuition begins at $12,700.
