Saint Joseph’s College of Maine

Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is a private, Catholic institution and a liberal arts college founded in 1912 by the Sisters of Mercy, an international group comprised of Catholic women dedicated to service.  With just 3,000 students, the Standish, Maine based college has programs in liberal arts, education, nursing and business.  The college also has a commitment to service learning.

Online Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

The online Bachelor’s degree in nursing program is unique in that it is not restricted to nurses with an associate’s degree, nurses who hold a diploma may also participate in the program.  Students may also take challenge examinations to earn credit for previous educational or work experience that has provided knowledge needed to earn their degree.

Duration and Cost

Tuition is $325 per credit.  The bachelor’s degree requires a total of 128 credits, 32 of which must be earned from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.  Total cost of your program will depend on the credits needed after transfer, challenge exams, etc.  The average undergraduate program cost is $28,000.

Online Master’s Degrees in Nursing

Students in the online master’s programs at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine can choose from three degree specializations and two dual degree options in Healthcare Administration and Business Administration. The three specializations that students can choose from are:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner- Nurses seeking to serve families in a clinical setting
  • Nurse Educator –Nurses seeking an educator or instructor position
  • Nurse Administrator- Nurses seeking an administrative or leadership role

All three specializations will prepare nurses to sit certifying exams in their respective specialization.

Registered nurses who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree may also participate in the RN to MSN degree option.

Duration and Cost

Tuition ranges from $425 to $600 per credit depending on the specialization of the course. The Family Nurse Practitioner is $600 per credit, while all other specializations are $425 per credit.  Courses require 42-60 credits depending on the specialization and degree(s) earned.

Online Certificates in Nursing

Saint Joseph’s College of Maine offers three online certificate options that nurses may earn post-degree.

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certificate offers the opportunity for nurses with a master’s degree to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and sit the qualifying exam. The 27 credit program requires 600 supervised clinical hours.

The online Certificate in Nursing & Health Care Education is designed for nurses who are a staff educator or who desire to increase their knowledge of the profession.  This 18 credit course is not meant to certify instructors or prepare them for post-secondary instruction.

The 18 credit Certificate in Nursing Administration & Leadership is ideal for nurses who are new managers or desire to become managers.

Tuition for graduate courses is $425 per credit, with the exception of the $600 per credit FNP program.

Faculty of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine all hold graduate level degree (master’s or higher), with several holding doctoral level degrees.
