Southern Nazarene University Undergraduate Nursing Programs

Traditional BS with a Nursing Major (BSN)

The BS with a Nursing Major degree program at Southern Nazarene University is a four year program leading to a BS (Bachelor’s of Science) degree. The difference between a BSN and a BS with a Nursing Major is that the latter degree is more generalized allowing nurses to pursue different career options should they choose. A BSN is targeted only towards nursing and healthcare in general. The BS Nursing Major program begins in the sophomore year of study. Admission requirements to the undergraduate nursing program include a 2.75 or higher GPA, completion of all prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better and an English competency test for non-native speakers of English. Admission preference to the nursing program is given to students who have completed college coursework at Southern Nazarene University. Though there is not a separate track for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), LPNs may earn up to 6 academic credits through challenge coursework. Upon completion of the BSN program, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN, National Council for Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses, to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

Accelerated RN to BS (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science)
The RN to BS with a Nursing Major program at Southern Nazarene University prepares students with baccalaureate level nursing concepts and training necessary to further their careers and attend graduate school. The RN to BS Nursing Major program is part-time as it meets once weekly. Upon completion of the 14 month nursing program, students will receive a BS Nursing Major. Admission requirements to the RN to BS Nursing Major program include a minimum 2.75 GPA, an active RN license and a minimum of 60 transferable college credits.

Accelerated Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

The MSN program at Southern Nazarene University prepares RNs with a master’s level qualification in nursing leadership or nursing education. The MSN program is completed on an intensive basis and requires 39 credits including a 6 credit thesis. Admission requirements to the program include a minimum 3.0 GPA and graduation from an accredited bachelor’s degree nursing program.

Alternative Master in Nursing for Non-nursing BS Majors

Registered Nurses with a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing seeking to earn a graduate qualification can do so in less time than it would take to earn a BSN and MSN separately. The Alternative MSN program allows RNs to earn an MSN in just 19 months, without earning a BSN. Admission requirements to the program include a minimum 3.0 GPA in baccalaureate level coursework and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited program.
