Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science Nursing Program Review

Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science (GSC) is a non-profit private institution of higher education, which serves the area of Southeastern Indiana, Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. It is also a subsidiary of the Good Samaritan Hospital and TriHealth, Inc.

GSC has been serving the needs of healthcare professionals, as well as the entire community, for more than 114 years now. They are committed to maintain their spot as the regional leader of providing healthcare and nursing education in a hospital-based and unique Catholic college environment.

Other goals of GSC include the emphasis of Christian value orientations to real life; the creation of a caring environment where students can feel a sense of personal satisfaction; the promotion of academic excellence in nursing; and overall community service.

Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science – Nursing

Undergraduate Nursing

The Good Samaritan Hospital nursing program has been around since 1896 and continues to provide top quality Catholic nursing education to this day. This program can be completed by full-time students in two years.

To apply, students need to be high school graduates and U.S. citizens with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.

Graduates will obtain the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree upon completion of the program. They will also be able to sit for the state licensure examination as registered nurses.

The Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, and has been approved by the Ohio Board of Regents and the Ohio Board of Nursing.

BSN Completion

In cooperation with the College of Mount St. Joseph, Regis University, the University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University, Thomas More College, the University of Phoenix, and Indiana Wesleyan, this program is now available for students who wish to complete the BSN.

To apply, students will need to complete all of the requirements of Good Samaritan College’s Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree. Graduates will take around two years of full-time study to complete the BSN.

Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree

Students can complete this program in two years and one summer of full-time study. Graduates will get the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree. They will also be able to sit for the state examination for licensure as registered nurses.

Academic Assistance

This program exists in an individualized program of learning. It provides one-on-one instructions with learning specialists, as needed. Some skills that are addressed in this program include time management, study skills, test-taking techniques and note-taking techniques. Learning specialists can also refer students for special learning or comprehensive evaluation needs.

Assessment Testing

This type of testing is done before students are admitted to the Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science to begin with. The ACT’s diagnostic COMPASS is administered here to measure the student’s skills and knowledge in reading, mathematics and writing. The student’s skills in critical thinking are also assessed through the Assessment Technologies Institute’s Entrance Critical Thinking test.
