Jamestown College offers a 4-year NCLAC fully accredited baccalaureate nursing program. Acceptance to the program requires that students first be admitted to the college to complete a set of nursing prerequisites and liberal arts courses. However, a limited number of students are granted direct freshman acceptance in the nursing program if they meet the high criteria of a GPA of 3.25 and a SAT score of 1100or ACT of 24. Such students seeking freshman nursing admission may also be asked to attend a personal admission interview.

To ensure progression into the junior year, such students must also maintain a GPA of 3.0 on all prerequisites and liberal arts courses taken at Jamestown. Only 30 students are chosen for the freshman acceptance program. Coming to international programs, Jamestown college offers senior clinical nursing experience in Kenya; Chogoria Mission Hospital tucked deep in the jungle at Mt. Kenya. The trip also offers a Safari experience in the famous Masaai Mara. Other international destinations for Jamestown student nurses include Vietnam and Taiwan.

Sanford College of Nursing

 To get started at Sanford College of nursing, a student must have completed or enrolled for general education and nursing support courses from an accredited college or university.  Applicants must show high levels of integrity, scholastic ability and academic achievements. As a nursing college attached to a health care medical center, Sanford college gives preference in admission to applicants of Sanford Health system employees or alumni of the college. For general admission that is subject to review by the admission committee, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on all prerequisite courses. Alternatively, some applicants may be granted exceptional admission if they have a GPA of 3.5 or higher on all prior pre-nursing courses taken. Generally, admission is based on a personal interview, recommendation letters, academic profile and achievements, a personal statement and an impromptu essay.

Minot State University

Minot state university offers a nationally accredited and approved Bachelor of Science in nursing program. First, students need to be admitted to Minot and complete at least 50 semester hours of support and general education courses of the pre-nursing program before applying for the nursing major. This is done in the freshman and sophomore year but students must note that completing these courses does not guarantee them a spot in the nursing major phase. Generally, students will be required to take a TEAS V test in addition to have a GPA of 2.75 or higher for the purpose of admission ranking. Students officially admitted in the major nursing program may also enroll for the Health Management Science minor track. Beyond the classroom, student nurses may get involved in a number of organizations including the Sigma Theta Tau chapter of Minot and the MSU Students Nurses Association.

North Dakota State University

The pre-licensure baccalaureate degree in nursing program is one of the two undergraduate nursing tracks offered in North Dakota State University along with the LPN to BSN program. The track starts with enrollment in the first two years in the pre-nursing phase open to all high school graduates. Students who attain a GPA of 3.0 higher in the pre-nursing track become eligible to apply to the professional track at the end of sophomore year. However, admission is very competitive and besides the GPA is based on a personal interview, references, number of courses completed at NDSU, a grade “C” or higher in the pre-nursing courses, community service/leadership among others. The university has only one admission cycle for the nursing major. NDSU has an active Student nurses Association and a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nurses.

University of Mary

Every fall semester, the University of Mary admits new students to the traditional undergraduate nursing program through a competitive and limited admission process. The nursing track focuses on holistic nurse training that is line with the University’s Benedictine values.  Applicants for the division of nursing at UMary will require a minimum GPA of 2.75 on Umary courses or those transferred from other colleges. At some point while taking the prerequisite courses, students will need to complete a Certified Nursing Assistant course and become a licensed CNA. Applicants to the nursing major who exhibit superior academic capacity, leadership ability and scholastic ambitions may be inducted in the Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Theta.

University of North Dakota

Following completion of prerequites courses, transfer and traditional University of North Dakota students can apply for admission in the 5-semester professional nursing program. Each fall and spring semester, the university admits close to 60 students in the nursing major. This traditional nursing baccalaureate track prepares students for the NCLEX-RN exam for initial licensure as registered nurses. Theory courses are offered on-campus while practical courses can be taken in partner clinical agents sites throughout Grand Forks. On this note, students can take part in the cooperative education and working program with a number of clinical sites in the state. This plan allows students to work as a nurse either on a parallel basis i.e. school during weekdays and work during weekends or in the summer vacation period.  Student nurses can take advantage of the numerous UND nursing-specific scholarship options to aid their tuition payment.
