East Central University

East Central University (ECU) has both the generic Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) and the Registered nurse completion program.  The generic track is open to both high school graduates who have no prior college education as well as transfer students who can transfer college credits from other universities. The university makes the program accessible to most southeastern parts of Oklahoma by offering all nursing courses at its 2 satellite campuses in Ardmore, Durant in addition to the main campus in Ada.

ECU has also made efforts to bring university nursing-specific scholarship opportunities to nursing students. Other avenues where academically talented students can grow their scholarly ambitions include the newly formed chapter of Sigma Theta Tau honor society and the student nurses organization.

Langston University-Langston

LU distinctively boasts to be the only historically black university in the Oklahoma and as such pledges to keep this uniqueness in its programs. The university offers a 4-year baccalaureate nursing degree for students with no prior nursing experience. It is designed to train nurses to take the NCLEX-RN exam for initial licensure as registered nurses and entry in the field of nursing as a generalist.  First, students must be admitted at Langston Campus on a general basis to the university to complete the general education component of the program. This is reserved for the first two years in the university. Only students who have declared a major within the 1st 2 years and earned an average GPA of 2.5 are considered for admission in the nursing program.  In addition, any applicant for the major must have completed a Certified Nurse Assistant course as a prerequisite for the major. All students are given equal admission opportunities in regards to academic standing without prejudice on race, color or creed.

Langston University-Tulsa

The BSN program at the Tulsa campus of LU is a replica program of the Langston campus. The campus offers the entire program courses in terms of general education and nursing courses. Applicants for the major must have completed a least 60 university credits in the first two years to be eligible for admission for the nursing major. These must carry a minimum GPA of 2.5 with a grade “C” or higher. Applicants at Tulsa must have completed a Certified Nurse Assistant course to be eligible for some nursing courses in the junior level. Langston has two admission cycles for fall and spring start dates.

North Western Oklahoma State University

The division of nursing a NWOSU offers a 4-year NLNAC accredited program leading to the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.  It is offered in three campus locations; Alva main campus Enid and Woodward and classes are through Interactive Television sessions. The generic program culminates in the student’s eligibility to apply and write the NCLEX-RN exam for initial licensure as a registered nurse. A separate application to the nursing professional program calls for students that have completed all general education and prerequisite courses with an average GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applicants must have also taken a course and become Certified Nurses Assistants prior to starting junior level. Admission for the major occurs once annually for classes starting fall semester.  NWOSU is looking forward to establishing a Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau honor society in an attempt to nurture the scholastic abilities of bright students. This will boast student growth in professional nursing growth outside the classroom alongside the existing Students Nurses Association.

Oklahoma Baptist University

OkBU offers a 4-year nursing program leading to the bachelor of nursing program. The program is fully accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the states board of nursing. As a Christian University, the program takes a holistic approach to nurse training that embraces the Christian ministry and practices. In some of the Christian missions of the university, students may choose to have study abroad academic activities; one such destination is Mexico during senior or junior levels. In addition to the major nursing curriculum, students interested in Parish Nursing/ Faith Community Nursing as a minor can take extra courses to receive certification in parish nursing.

Oklahoma Christian University

OC admits freshman, transfers and change of major students to the professional nursing programs.  All students interested in the nursing program must first gain admission to OC prior to applying to the nursing major. Eligible applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.9 on transfer credits or credits taken at OC as pre-nursing courses. The GPA is derived on only nursing support courses and not all general education courses taken between the freshman year and the spring semester of sophomore level. Admission is very competitive and meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance for the junior and senior years.

Oklahoma City University

The gateway to nursing program at Oklahoma City University is designed to prepare students for initial licensure as registered nurses. It is a fully NLNAC accredited 4-year nursing program that lead to the award of the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree. The most attractive feature of this program is that students can declare a major as soon they are admitted to the pre-nursing program. Furthermore, no separate application is required for the nursing major; all students who meet the 3.0 GPA minimum are automatically admitted to the BSN. This saves applicants time wasted in waiting lists. The university has 3 admission cycles for fall, spring and summer semesters start dates.  In addition to the generic nursing curriculum, student nurses can join some of the nurse organizations including Sigma Theta Tau, Black Nurses Association, Students Nurses Association and the Nurses Christian Fellowship.

The university is a private Christian university that integrates Christian values and teachings in all its programs. The nursing track is a 4-year traditional baccalaureate leading to Bachelor of Science in nursing.  Beginning in the freshman year, students take diverse prerequisite courses as a foundation for nursing courses. As part of this foundation, the general education and prerequisite courses acquaint students with biblical and spiritual aspects of nursing before being allowed to make the next step to the nursing major courses.  Upon completion of these CCNE accredited program, students earn academic eligibility to apply and sit the NCLEX-RN exam to become licensed registered nurses.

Oral Roberts University

Oral Roberts University gives the opportunity to fresh college graduates and transfer students to earn a bachelor degree in nursing.  This degree program is designed to prepare students to complete the NCLEX-RN towards seeking initial licensure as registered nurses. Students desiring to start as freshmen must have a high school diploma in addition to having ACT or SAT scores of 21 or 1000 respectively. On the other hand, those applicants eying the transfer path must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher from their earlier college courses taken along with a similar ACT or SAT as that of freshman applicants. During the senior year, students get the opportunity to travel abroad for a month in accomplishment of the Christian outreach program.  Destinations for study abroad include Nigeria and Mexico.

Rogers State University-Claremore

Rogers state University has a unique nursing program that combines an associate degree drop-out stage or an option to complete a bachelor of science in nursing degree. Basically, Rogers offers an associate of science in nursing program designed to take about five semesters to complete. Upon completion of the associate degree curriculum, students can take the NCLEX-RN exam to become registered nurses and enter to practice. Alternatively, the registered nurses may choose to continue smoothly through the stand alone RN to Bachelor of nursing program and as such, earn a baccalaureate degree. This plan is quite flexible to allow students advance or just joint nursing practice after two years. Those wishing to continue with the RN to BSN track complete in the typical four years.

Southern Nazarene University

SNU has a 4-year curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Science with a nursing major. This program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education as an entry-level program for students seeking initial licensure as registered nurses. Interested students must start with the pre-nursing and meet the minimum GPA of 2.75 requirements for admission in the nursing major. Although transfer students are welcome to apply for the upper division nursing courses, preference after ranking is given to applicants who have completed their pre-nursing and prerequisites courses at SNU.  A new of group of students is selected every fall of the sophomore level to proceed for 5 semesters of nursing coursework.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University

The traditional nursing degree is one of the two leading to the award of a bachelor of science in nursing at SWOSU alongside the registered nurses bachelor completion program. The degree plan is for students to complete at least 44 credits in general education and prerequisites courses prior to applying for admission to the upper division nursing courses. Admission for the professional component occurs once annually in the fall semester. The lower division courses take two years to complete and the next two years reserved for the major courses.  The entire curriculum of 127 credit hours takes 8 semesters of full time study to complete. SWOSU has availed a number of scholarships for which nursing students can apply for.

University of Central Oklahoma

The nursing undergraduate program at the University of Central Oklahoma is a highly competitive track. As per the university records, only close to 60 students which represent a 3rd of the entire pool of applicants is selected to join the nursing major. Applicants must either be traditional UCO students or transfer students who have completed the required prerequisite courses. Traditional UCO students take at least 2 years to complete the prerequisites phase after which they can qualify for admission to the next 5 semesters of professional nursing coursework. A minimum GPA of 2.50 from general education courses and a TEAS test are prerequisites of applying to the nursing major. The university has two admission cycles per year for fall and spring semesters.

University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center

Each year in the fall semester, the University of Oklahoma admits students to the traditional Bachelor of Science in nursing program. The program is offered at four sites across Oklahoma in addition to the main campus at Norman. The regional campus sites are located in Tulsa, Lawton, Oklahoma City and Duncan. There are 2 admission options: the normal admission for students who complete the prerequisite courses and undergo competitive selection and the conditional direct admit option available for students at the Norman campus only. To qualify for direct admission, freshman applicants must have exceptional grades from the high school records. In addition, they must have completed at least 24 general education courses with a GPA of 2.5 or better during the first two years upon admission as a freshman. Students with conditional direct admission who do not meet the above requirements by the time of starting the major will have to forfeit direct admission status and be subjected to normal admission.

University of Tulsa

The University of Tulsa’s undergraduate nursing program prepares fresh high school graduates to take the licensure exams to become registered nurses. It is a 4-year curriculum that leads to the award of the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree. One unique feature about the TU nursing program is that it is an integrate part of the college of business at the university. This unique integration allows students to take courses that manifest nursing as business alongside the nursing as a service.  As such, nursing students are able to take selected nursing courses from the sophomore to senior year. Once admitted as a freshman, students take lower division prerequisites courses and apply for admission in the professional nursing program in late spring of freshman year. By achieving an average GPA of 2.5, a student become eligible to apply for the annual admission cycle for classes starting fall semester of sophomore year.  Alongside the major, students interested in working with children can take a Minor in Early Intervention consisting of 12 credit hours.
