The basic undergraduate baccalaureate nursing program is open to both first time college goers and transfers students who have completed some college credits. The program is one of the three leading to the bachelor of nursing degree in the university alongside the RN to BSN and second degree in nursing track. Offered in the Providence area of the state, the program is close to numerous state renowned sites where students take clinical and practical classes. The 4 years of the program is designed in such a way that students complete general education and cognates courses before taking the professional nursing courses.

Through scholarships, RIC offers interested students to become nurse corps in the Army ROTC scholarship program among other numerous scholarships.  The college also has an active student nurses association in addition to the honors in programs for students who have performed exceptionally well. Upon completion of the BSN curriculum, students become eligible to apply and take the NCLEX-RN exam to become licensed nurses.

Salve Regina University

Salve Regina pre-licensure nursing program is one of the two degree plans leading to the Bachelor of Science in nursing. It is designed for recent high school graduates, transfer and those seeking a second degree in nursing. Students starting as freshman take the first 2 years in foundation and nursing support courses.  On the other hand, students seeking transfer must have completed at least 36 credits of lower division courses from an accredited college to be eligible for transfer to Salve Regina. The program takes a multicultural approach so as to mould nurses who are competent in holistic nursing for diverse communities. While in the pre-licensure, nursing program, students can join the student nurses organization and the Sigma Theta Nurses chapter.

University of Rhode Island

The traditional bachelor of nursing at URI is organized into a 4 year program after which students become eligible to take the NCLEX registered nurses licensure exam.  The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Upon admission as a freshman, students are expected to complete the required general education and foundation courses with an average GPA of 2.8.This is for eligibility for students to apply for the upper division and professional nursing courses. About 100 students are admitted in the upper division phase of the program every semester making it about 200 students for the two admission cycles annually.  Besides the regular curriculum, student nurses become members of the State’s Nurses Association and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor of Nursing.
