Edison State College Nursing Program Review


Edison State College (ESC) opened its doors in 1962, and now awards associates and bachelor’s degrees along with certificates. Each year over 25,000 students enroll in Edison State College’s various academic programs. The college has several campuses in Collier, Charlotte and Lee counties.

ESC strives to provide education to a diverse group of students as a result creating global citizens. Edison State College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Review of Edison State College Nursing Degree Programs

The Division of Professional and Technical Studies houses the Nursing Program at Edison State College. Nursing programs at Edison State College are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The nursing program has internal scholarship opportunities for its students and is home to a newly built facility. The facility prepares students for critical care situations in a variety of hospital environments including, pediatrics and ICU conditions. The simulation is equipped with life-like manikins that can both respond to procedures and initiate patient reactions and behavior. Students can also be tested using the simulation technology as their interactions can be assessed and graded by nursing faculty members.

Edison State College Undergraduate Nursing Programs

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program (RN to BSN Completion Program)

The RN to BSN (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing) program at Edison State College is a degree completion program designed for RNs currently holding an associate’s degree or diploma to earn a bachelor’s degree. Students will develop the critical skills necessary to enhance their career and ability in their profession. The program covers several areas of nursing including legal aspects, informatics, research and professional issues. Admission requirements to the program include an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or diploma, a Florida state nursing license, comprehensive GPA of 2.0 or higher and completion of general education requirements.

LPN to ADN (Licensed Practical Nurse to Associate’s Degree in Nursing) Bridge

Nurses with an LPN or students without nursing experience can apply to the associate’s degree in nursing program. Students without previous nursing experience would apply as basic students, while those with an LPN apply as advanced students. Upon completion of the program, students can take the NCLEX-RN exam. Students in the associate’s degree program are required to complete 16 hours of volunteering in a community health or service agency to become better aware of the needs of the community as well as the available health and community resources. Volunteer experience does not have to be completed in a healthcare setting and may be completed a homeless shelter, church or other community organization.

Honors Program

Students at Edison College may participate in the honors program, which requires 12 credits of nursing education in one of the following academic areas: communications, humanities, science, math, social sciences. Students are required to earn a grade of “B” or better in honors courses.
