Fairfield University is a private, Jesuit school founded in 1942 by the Society of Jesus. It is located on a 200-acre campus in Fairfield, Connecticut. The mission of Fairfield University is to both foster religious and ethical values and to develop the intellectual potential of its students. It offers over 80 graduate and undergraduate degree programs in 10 schools.

The Fairfield University School of Nursing offers an Accelerated Second Degree Program that allows students who have a bachelors degree in another field to achieve a BSN after 15 months of full-time classroom and clinical work. To qualify for admissions to this 2nd degree BSN program, the applicant must have completed all general education coursework required to receive an undergraduate degree from Fairfield University, as well as basic science coursework. The application deadline is November 1 for June enrollment.

Quinnipiac University is a private university in Hamden, Connecticut. It is located at the foot of Sleeping Giant Mountain, 8 miles from New Haven and less than 2 hours from New York City. It was founded in 1929 as Connecticut College of Commerce by Samuel W. Tator. In 1951 it was renamed Quinnipiac College after the Quinnipiac Indian tribe. After expanding its academic programs, the school’s name became Quinnipiac University in 2000. Quinnipiac currently offers undergraduate and graduate programs through five colleges and schools.

The School of Nursing is located on Quinnipiac’s North Haven campus in a 180,000 square foot facility that it shares with the School of Health Sciences. In addition to its traditional path to achieving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, Quinnipiac’s School of Nursing offers an Accelerated BSN for Second Degree Students. This ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program uses a curriculum based on the student’s prior academic preparation, allowing the nursing BSN requirements to be completed in one calendar year of full-time study. The application deadline is January 2.

Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) is one of the four universities that are part of the Connecticut State University System. Its campus is in the West Rock neighborhood of New Haven. Since its establishment in 1893 as New Haven State Normal School, a 2-year training school for teachers, Southern Connecticut State University has grown into a modern, diversified university offering over 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and employing over 700 faculty members.

The Department of Nursing graduated its first class of 13 students in 1973. Since then the school has grown to offer both undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees, including the Accelerated Career Entry (ACE) program. The ACE program is an accelerated BSN program that allows qualified students to complete the requirements to earn a BSN in 12 consecutive months. To qualify for this full-time program, the student must already have a bachelors degree and have completed the 8 prerequisite classes. The application deadline is August 1. However, because of the competitiveness of this program, only the first 120 applications received will be reviewed.

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public university founded in 1881 by Charles and Augustus Storrs. It was originally called the Storrs Agricultural School. The name of the school was changed in 1939 to the University of Connecticut to reflect the shift in curriculum to a liberal arts focus. The main campus is located in Storrs, Connecticut with five regional campuses: Avery Point, Greater Hartford, Stamford, Torrington, and Waterbury. UConn now offers over 100 majors and 24 undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The School of Nursing was founded in 1942. Among its several degree programs, the School of Nursing offers the Master’s Entry into Nursing (MbEIN) – Accelerated Pre-Licensure program. This accelerated BSN program is offered at the Storrs, Avery Point, Waterbury and Stamford campuses and is designed for students who have a already earned a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing. It allows such students to earn a BSN degree and to qualify to take the RN licensure exam after one calendar year of study. To qualify for this program, the student must complete the prerequisite science and statistics coursework. The application deadlines are January 31, June 30 and August 31.

The University of Saint Joseph Connecticut is a private, Catholic institution founded in 1932 by the Sister of Mercy with a mission to establish a liberal arts college for women. It is located in West Hartford, Connecticut about 100 miles from Boston and 100 miles from New York City. It offers undergraduate degrees to women and graduate degrees to men and women.

The Department of Nursing at University of Saint Joseph offers several options for students to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, including the Second Degree Program. This accelerated BSN program is designed to give students who already have a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing the opportunity to earn a BSN on an accelerated schedule. Students must have completed 3 of the 5 science prerequisite classes prior to applying for admission. Applicants are not permitted to retake prerequisite science classes due to a low grade. The application deadline is February 15.
