Emory University is a private, Methodist university located in the Druid Hills section of Atlanta, Georgia. It was founded in 1870 in Oxford, Georgia by the Georgia Conference of Methodists, and named after Methodist bishop John Emory. Asa Candler, the founder of Coca-Cola, donated the land on which the school’s first buildings were erected. It was recently ranked 20th among national universities by US News and World Report.

Emory currently consists of 11 schools and colleges, with an annual enrollment of over 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University evolved from the Wesley Memorial Hospital Training School for Nurses that was established in 1905. Years later after the school moved to Emory’s campus and separated from the hospital, it was renamed after Nell Hodgson Woodruff, a former School of Nursing student and wife of Coca-Cola magnate Robert Woodruff. The 2nd Degree BSN program allows students to earn a BSN degree after four semesters of full-time study. To qualify for this ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program, the student must have a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the seven prerequisite classes prior to fall matriculation. The application deadline is in January for fall entry.

Georgia Southwestern State University is a public university located in Americus, Georgia. It is part of the University System of Georgia. Established in 1906, Georgia Southwestern now has 5 colleges and offers over 75 degree programs. The School of Nursing offers the Second Degree Accelerated BSN program that allows students who already have undergraduate degrees to earn a BSN on a fast track basis. To be eligible for this BSN accelerated program, the student must have a non-nursing bachelors degree and must have completed the science and nursing prerequisite coursework prior to admission to the program. In addition, prior to completing the program, the student must complete the United States and Georgia history coursework as required by the University System of Georgia. The application deadlines are in May 1 for the Fall term and November 1 for the Spring term.

Georgia State University is a public university located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Its central location allows students easy access to Atlanta’s many cultural and historical attractions such as Centennial Olympic Park, CNN Center and the Georgia Dome. Founded in 1913, Georgia State’s original curriculum focused on mining engineering. Over the years its curriculum has expanded significantly to now offering 52 degrees in over 200 fields of study.

The Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions was established in 1968. In addition to the Traditional BSN program, it offers a 16 month ACE (Achieving the Curriculum Expeditiously) Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing program for students with a undergraduate degree. This rigorous program requires 81 hours per week of classroom, clinical, laboratory work and study time. To qualify for this BSN accelerated program, the student must have a bachelors degree and must have completed the 12 prerequisite classes. The application deadlines are March 1 for the Fall term and October 1 for the Spring term.

Kennesaw State University is a public university located 20 miles north of Atlanta in Kennesaw, Georgia, near Kennesaw Mountain. Originally named Cobb County Junior College, the school was founded in 1963 by the Georgia Board of Regents. After it evolved into a four-year college and expanded its curricula, in 1968 the school was renamed Kennesaw State University. With over 24,000 students, Kennesaw State is the third largest university in Georgia.

The 45-year old Wellstar School of Nursing at Kennesaw State is the largest nursing program in Georgia. For students who wish to pursue nursing careers and who already have a bachelors degree, the Accelerated Baccalaureate Program allows students to earn a BSN degree after four months of full-time study. To qualify for this BSN accelerated program, the student must also have completed the 12 prerequisite courses within ten years of applying. Prerequisite classes completed more than 10 years of applying must be retaken. The application deadlines are January 31 for the Fall semester and June 30 for the Spring semester.

Valdosta State University (VSU) is a public university located on a 168-acre campus in Valdosta, Georgia. Valdosta also has satellite campuses at the Kings Bay Naval Base in Camden County and at the Moody Air Force Base in Lowndes County. Founded in 1906 by the Georgia state legislature, VSU was initially called South Georgia State Normal College. Over the years the school went through numerous name changes as its curricula evolved. In 1993 it became Valdosta State University.

The Valdosta State University College of Nursing was established in 1968 to address the need for registered nurses in South Georgia. Students who have already earned a bachelors degree may pursue a BSN at the College of Nursing in the Accelerated BSN Program for Second Degree Students. This second degree BSN program allows students to earn a BSN degree after four terms of full-time study. To qualify for this BSN accelerated program the student must also have completed the prerequisite coursework before matriculation. The application deadline is December 1 for the May entry.
