New Mexico State University is a public college located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, with satellite campuses in Alamogordo, Albuquerque, Carlsbad and Doña Ana.  Founded in 1888, it was originally called Las Cruces College, a school that prepared students for careers in agriculture. It has expanded to now offer 215 degree and certificate programs through its 12 colleges and schools.

The School of Nursing at New Mexico State University offers three tracks for earning the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree:  Four-Year Pre-Licensure, Second-Degree Accelerated Program, and RN to BSN.  The Second-Degree Accelerated program allows students to earn a BSN degree after 16 months of full-time classroom and clinical work.  To qualify for this ABSN (Accelerated BSN) degree program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the 5 prerequisite classes.  The prerequisite classes include:  Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology, one additional science course and Statistics.  The application deadlines are February for the fall semester and September for the spring semester.

The University of New Mexico is a public college located on a 600-acre campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with additional campuses in Los Alamos, Gallup, Taos, Rio Rancho, and in Valencia County.  It is the flagship school in the University of New Mexico System.  Founded in 1889 by the New Mexico state legislature, the University of New Mexico now consists of 12 schools and colleges and offers over 225 degree programs.  The College of Nursing offers the Second Degree Entry Option as an accelerated path to earning the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.  To qualify for this BSN 2nd degree program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the prerequisite classes.  Preference is given to residents of New Mexico.  The application deadlines are in February for fall entry and September of spring entry.
