The Medical University of South Carolina is a public academic medical institution located in Charleston, South Carolina.  Founded in 1824, it was originally called the Medical College of South Carolina, a private college for training physicians. Today it is home to a medical center and 6 colleges for training health care professionals and biomedical scientists.

The College of Nursing started in 1884 as 2-year training program.  It now has the largest second degree BSN program in South Carolina.  The accelerated 2nd degree BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program at the Medical University of South Carolina is a 16-month program that prepares students for RN licensure.  The program includes both traditional classroom training as well as web-enhanced activities and clinical experiences at local healthcare facilities.  To qualify for this BSN accelerated nursing degree program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the following prerequisite classes:  Lifespan Human Growth and Development, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Microbiology, Statistics and a Science Elective. For fall admission the application deadline is in November for Priority Admission and in January for Regular Admission.  For spring admission, the application deadline is in August for Priority Admission and September for Regular Admission.
