The College of Nursing and Health Education at Arizona State University is home to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and PhD in Nursing program. The DNP is a practical degree for nurses who will continue working with patients, managing care and shaping healthcare systems at the highest level. Students that pursue a PhD in Nursing receive training in scholarly activities such as teaching in nursing education programs and conducting research in nursing. Both DNP and PhD in Nursing represent terminal degrees (the highest qualification possible) in nursing.

Three entry pathways are offered for nurses in the DNP program. Nurses with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) are eligible to apply for the DNP program. There is one nursing track for DNPs and two for nurses with masters degrees, one for DNP applicants with an advanced practice specialty and an additional track for masters degreed nurses without an advanced practice degree. The DNP is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The PhD in Nursing Innovation admits nurses with a bachelors degree or masters degree in nursing. The PhD in Nursing Innovation is a personalized program of study in which study can choose in which areas to focus their PhD education.

The University of Arizona, based in Tucson, Arizona was founded in 1885, and is the first university in Arizona. The University of Arizona is a public, research institution that awards bachelors through doctoral degrees. An additional University of Arizona campus is located in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

A DNP and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) are offered at the University of Arizona College of Nursing. Both students with a bachelors of science in nursing and masters of science in nursing are eligible to apply. Admission requirements to the DNP program include a BSN with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and a MSN with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Students have the option of choosing several specialties in the Nurse Practitioner field. Students may also apply a dual degree DNP/PhD program with or without a nursing specialty. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredits the DNP program at the University of Arizona.

Nurses with a BSN and MSN may apply to the PhD in Nursing program. There is also a Post-DNP PhD in Nursing program for nurses who have already earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice. The GPA requirements for admission to the PhD in Nursing program are the same as those for the DNP specialization.
