LPN Programs in Delaware

There’s expected to be a 13% growth in the demand for licensed practical nurses in Delaware between now and 2016, which makes this a very attractive healthcare profession to get involved in. Add to that the relatively short training period, and relatively high earnings, and it’s the perfect choice.

Before you choose just any Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) training program in Delaware though, there are a few things you should know.

State Approved LPN Programs in Delaware

The first thing you need to know about becoming an LPN in Delaware is that you can only do so if you complete a Delaware State Board of Nursing approved training program. These programs are on offer at colleges, community colleges, vocational training centers and certain private facilities. Where you choose to train does not matter though – as long as the program is accredited.

LPN Syllabus in Delaware

LPN training in Delaware is comprehensive, and teaches you all the skills you will need to care for patients, administer medication, note changes in patient condition and more. It’s also designed to give you specialist training in coping with patient care from infants and babies, right up to elderly people. In fact, the one year (on average) course will provide you with all the skills you need to work in any hospital, medical or dental practice or long term care facility in the state.

You will also complete practical, hands on training, supervised by an RN or doctor, as well as classroom studies and lab training.

Registering As An LPN in Delaware

Like most states, before you can work as a registered LPN in Delaware, you need to pass the NCLEX-PN exam. You will also have to have at least a high school diploma or GED, a clear criminal record, and be able to speak, read and write English. Once you’ve passed your exam, and you meet all the minimum entrance requirements, you will be able to accept any LPN position in the state.

Prospects and Earnings for LPN’s in Delaware

We’ve already mentioned that the LPN field is a high growth one, and one that you’re unlikely to struggle to find a job in. It’s also fairly high paying, considering the limited training required, and on average, an LPN in Delaware will earn around $45,000. Some LPNs earn quite a bit more than that, however, depending on their levels of experience and skill, and where they work.
