LPN Programs in Ohio

Licensed practical nurses work under the supervision of registered nurses and doctors in Ohio and elsewhere. They provide direct patient care in hospitals, nursing homes and private medical and dental practices.

Before you can work as an Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Ohio or elsewhere, however, you first need the right training, and to get registered.

State Approval for Ohio LPN Programs

There are several on and offline LPN classes in Ohio, but before you sign up for any of them, you will need to ensure that they are accredited by the Ohio State Board of Nursing. That means that the course content is in line with the curriculum requirements of the state, and that when you finish, you will be eligible to get certified and registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

How Certification for LPN’s in Ohio Works

As an LPN, you will work directly with patients in a variety of medical settings, providing care and monitoring their condition. As such, the job of an LPN combines a high level of personal responsibility, technical skill, and physical ability.

In order to register as an LPN in Ohio, you will need to undergo certain background checks, have completed an approved LPN program, and have passed the NCLEX-PN exam. That exam is designed to test your practical and theoretical competency.

Once you’ve done all of that, you will be eligible to register with the State Board of Nursing, and work as an LPN anywhere in Ohio.

Outlook and Earnings for LPN’s in Ohio

As with most parts of the US, the growing demand for high quality care, particularly for the aged, is driving a huge demand for healthcare professionals, including LPNs in Ohio. Of course, jobs may be easier to come by in larger cities, but this is one of the more stable and desirable career fields out there right now.

Salaries for Licensed Practical Nurses in Ohio are a little lower than the national average, but you can still expect to earn around $40,000, depending on where you work, and your level of experience and skill.

When you get started as an LPN in Ohio, you will be working under the supervision of an RN or doctor, but over time, you might find that you want to qualify as a registered nurse yourself. Your LPN training course will be taken into account when you apply, and you might even get course credits for prior learning.
