There are quite a few accelerated BSN degree programs located in Massachusetts. Curry College is a public institution located in Milton, Massachusetts, 7 miles from downtown Boston, with a second campus in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1879 by Anna Baright as the School of Elocution with Alexander Graham Bell named the school’s first chancellor. In 1943 the school’s name was changed to Curry College after Anna Baright’s husband, Samuel Silas Curry.
Today, Curry College offers certificates, undergraduate degrees and graduate degree programs in 20 academic areas. The proximity of the School of Nursing to Boston allows students access to clinical opportunities in some of the nation’s best hospitals and health care facilities. The School of Nursing offers the traditional BSN program as well as the Accelerated BSN program at the Milton campus. This second degree accelerated BSN program allows students to earn a BSN degree after 16 months of full-time classroom and clinical work. The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science is a private institution located in the Longwood Medical section of Boston, Massachusetts, with campuses in Worcester, Massachusetts and Manchester, New Hampshire. It was founded by several Boston pharmacists in1823 as the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. It is the oldest college in Boston and the oldest school of pharmacy in the United States. The MGH Institute of Health Professions is a private institution that is part of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and closely affiliated with Harvard Medical School. It was founded in 1873 as Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and granted diplomas in nursing. The University of Mississippi Medical Center is the health sciences campus of the University of Mississippi. Located in Jackson, Mississippi, it is the only academic health sciences school in the state of Mississippi. It includes the School of Nursing, the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Health Related Professions and the School of Graduate Studies.
The School of Nursing was established in 1948 and is the state’s oldest nursing school. It is affiliated with over 200 hospitals clinics and other medical facilities, providing students with extensive opportunities for clinical experience.
The School of Nursing offers both a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program and the Accelerated BSN program (ABSN). This 15-month accelerated 2nd degree BSN program is geared toward students who have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and would like to now pursue a career in nursing. Students entering this program must have completed the 63 hours of prerequisite classwork, including the general education classes that are typically completed while earning the first bachelors degree. All other prerequisite science and math classes may be completed at the university, college or community college of the student’s choice. These classes include General Chemistry I with lab, Biology Elective with lab¸ Microbiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology I with lab, Human Anatomy and Physiology II with lab, College Algebra or higher-level math, Introduction to Computer Use, and Statistics. The application deadline is in January.
