Gonzaga University was founded by Father Joseph Cataldo in 1887 with the goal of establishing a school for young men desiring to become Jesuit priests.  Today, Gonzaga still maintains its Roman Catholic, Jesuit tradition and operates as a private co-educational institution.  With majors in Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering and Professional Studies, the university now has over 75 academic programs and majors.

Online nursing programs at Gonzaga University accommodate both nurses with a bachelors degree and those with an associate’s degree seeking advanced qualifications. Nursing programs are flexible and tailored to each individual learner’s specific needs.

Online Master’s Degree in Nursing

The online RN to MSN program offers the opportunity for nurses with an associate’s degree to earn a master’s degree more quickly than earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree separately.

Core curriculum in the online master’s degree programs includes the following topics:

The degree program offers two specializations:

Nurse Educator: Prepare for a career as an instructor and learn how to create, implement and evaluate curriculum. Core courses for the Nurse Educator specialization include:

  • Current Issues in Nursing Education and Transition into Nurse Educator Role
  • A 3-9 credit practicum

Health Systems Leadership: Learn how to manage new technology, integrate different systems and become an effective healthcare executive.  Core courses for the Nurse Educator specialization include:

  • Information and Quality Management
  • Communication and Relationship Management
  • Health Care Management: Financial Stewardship and Decision Support/Strategies

  • A 3-9 credit practicum

The degree earned in the online degree program is the same as the on campus program.  Students can collaborate with other students from the course through online discussion boards and a “Student Lounge” forum. Students can also participate in discussion with their professors through online message boards.

Duration and Cost

The program length is 36 to 66 credits depending if the student has already obtained a bachelors degree.  Program completion time is approximately 2.5 years for students who take at least two courses each semester.

Faculty

All online teaching faculty at Gonzaga University hold advance degrees and several years of experience in their field. All faculty that design courses hold doctoral degrees.
