University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) was founded in 1929.  In 1930, the then University of Kansas City merged with Lincoln and Lee University.  Beginning with just 265 students and 17 instructors in 1933, the university now has over 15,000 students and almost 4,000 faculty.  Students are able to choose from over 125 academic areas of study in 3 campus locations.

Online Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

The online Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree program is a competency program that focuses on developing leadership skills in nurses including being a manager, coordinator, and designer of healthcare programs.  Programs in the course include Pathophysiology, History of Nursing, and Scientific Inquiry.  Through the Rural Nurse Initiative (RNI) program, certain nurses serving in rural areas can enroll in the online degree program, and receive benefits such as a personal laptop on loan and reimbursement for fees related to a broadband connection to connect to online courses.

Duration and Cost

The degree program is 120 credits.  The total length of the program will vary on the number of units transferred in for the previous studies in nursing.  Students enrolled in online programs pay in-state tuition fees.  The program tuition varies per total credit hours enrolled, and undergraduate tuition is approximately $300-$350 per credit hour.

Online Master’s Degree in Nursing

The online Master Degree Program at the University of Missouri, Kansas City offers a Nurse Educator specialization.  Previous tracks as a Nurse Practitioner have been discontinued and instead, students may now apply for the new BSN to DNP program.

The School of Nursing at the University of Missouri-Kansas City offers a traditional research-based, academic doctoral program and also a practice-based DNP program for nurses interested in remaining in practice after earning their doctoral degree.

Online Certificates in Nursing

The online Post-Master’s Nurse Educator certificate allows nurses to complete nurse educator training after their degree program and prepares nurses to take the Nurse Educator certification exam offered by the National League of Nursing.
