Rasmussen College offers degree programs in Nursing, Education, Business, Health Sciences, Justice Studies, and Technology and Design in over 20 campus locations in the states of Minnesota, Illinois, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Florida and a distance-based location.  Rasmussen College was founded in St. Paul Minnesota in 1900 to bring a practical, career-oriented education options to the local population.

Walter Rasmussen founded the school to meet the demands of an overgrown business class to train secretaries and accountants.  Originally founded as Rasmussen Practical Institute, the fundamental goals and mission of Rasmussen College remain the same to train and prepare students for work in all areas of business and obtain a respectable livelihood.

Online Nursing and Health Care Degrees Review

Though Rasmussen College currently offers only 1 online degree option in nursing at the moment, there are several other online certification and degree opportunities in related fields including health sciences and medical administration.  Campus-based nursing programs included a Professional Nursing Associate’s Degree program and Practical Nursing Associate’s and Diploma Nursing programs.

Online Bachelor’s Degrees in Nursing

Rasmussen College offers 1 online degree completion program, a Registered Nurse to Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing program. The program is specifically for currently registered nurses holding an associate’s degree or diploma.  The college also offers a campus-based associate’s degree program to become a registered nurse.  Designed to train nursing leaders, the program provides training in clinical and management scenarios.  Courses electives for the program include:

  • Nursing Informatics-basic understanding of various information system applications within the health care system.
  • Quality and Safety in Nursing-examines safety and quality issues in healthcare
  • Introduction to Alternative and Complementary Therapies-explores alternative and contemporary theories in health, evidence-based healthcare and safety issues

Other required core courses of the program include the following:

  • Health Assessment
  • Applied Pathophysiology
  • Transcultural Nursing
  • Dimensions of Professional Nursing
  • Nursing Research
  • Public Health and Community Nursing
  • Leadership and Management in Nursing

Elements of the program include real-world case studies, projects, and critical-thinking discussions.  Students can transfer credits from multiple schools and transfer policies seek to minimize degree completion time as much as possible.

Duration and Cost

A total of 181 quarter credits are required for completion of the degree program.  Courses cost $310 to $395 per credit and may vary based on location of the program.
