Stevens Henager College

Stevens-Henager College was founded in 1891 by J.A. Smith as Intermountain Business College.  After several name changes, the college became known in 1959 as Stevens-Henager College, the name it holds to this day.  Though originally founded as a business college, the school has grown to offer programs in health care, nursing and information technology.  With main headquarters in Ogden, the college has branched out to four other locations in Utah, Colorado and Idaho.

Online Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

Course Description

Nurses in the online Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) and Nursing Administration programs are required to complete courses in Health Program Evaluation, Case Management, Critical Thinking, Statistics, Pathophysiology, and Introduction to Nursing Research.  Students are also required to complete a practicum.  While students in the master’s of nursing degree program explore research and statistics, the focus of the baccalaureate program is on practical aspects of nursing and students are not expected to apply research concepts as in the master’s degree. The bachelor’s degree programs offer a general Nursing and Nursing Administration degree and a Nursing Administration degree with one of five emphases — Clinical Nurse Educator, Community Health Nurse, Nurse Case Manager and Nursing Informatics emphasis.

Career Options

Career options for nurses pursuing bachelor’s degrees include acute care, advanced practice psychiatric, critical care, and clinical specialist nurses.  Some nurses can also consider becoming instructors at the bachelor’s degree level though experience is often required to supplement their degree.

The online nursing programs require 20 months to complete, and a minimum of 91 credits (registered nurses must have completed sufficient credits to have 3rd year status and general education requirements met).  Fees for tuition range from $30,155 to $40,385.

Online Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN)

The online master’s degrees in nursing offer a specialization in Nursing Administration or Nursing Education.

Course Description

Nurses in the master’s program take courses in Issues in Managed Care, Health Services Economics, Health Information Systems, Legal Considerations in Healthcare Delivery, and Outcomes Assessment and Quality Management.  Master’s degree nurses culminate their degree program in a final thesis project requiring an academic write up with results.

Duration and Cost

The online master’s nursing program requires 15 months to complete, which is composed of 59-83 credits depending on the specialization.  Fees for tuition are approximately $28,000.
