Cincinnati State Technical and Community College Nursing Program Review


Cincinnati State Technical and Community College (CSTCC) is a two-year public college that works under the Ohio Board of Regents. Nearly 20,000 students choose to enroll in day, evening and weekend courses in Cincinnati State and the international students that attend this school come from more than 75 different countries.

Cincinnati State has more than 100 majors, certificate programs and associate’s degree programs in Business Technologies, Health and Public Safety, Center for Innovative Technologies, and Humanities and Sciences.

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College – Health and Public Safety – Nursing Program

 There are various programs under the Health and Public Safety division of this school, including Nursing. Under Nursing, they provide the Nurse Aide Training Certificate, the Nursing (RN) (NUR) program, and the Practical Nursing Certificate (PNC).

Graduates of these courses have often continued to purse a Bachelors in Science in Nursing (BSN) degree  at these nearby colleges; College of Mount St. Joseph, Kettering Medical College of Ohio, Miami University, Northern Kentucky University, University of Cincinnati and Xavier University.

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College has accreditations from the State Department of Education, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the Ohio Board of Regents. The Nursing Program is approved by the Ohio State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Students who qualify for financial aid at Cincinnati State can enjoy top quality education at a more affordable price. Fortunately, there are a lot of different financial aid programs available at the school, including work-study, grants and loans, as well as Honors and institutional scholarships.

In order to qualify for financial aid, students need to be admitted to certain certificate-granting programs or eligible degree programs first. They must also meet satisfactory academic progress and remember to reapply for state or federal aid every year.

Campuses and Locations

The main campus of Cincinnati State can be found in the urban metropolitan yet classic Clifton area, where most of the offered courses; administrative and student services; recreation, library and athletic services can also be found.

The school also has a West Campus, though, which is located in Harrison, Ohio. This is where Aviation Maintenance Technology students take their courses, though other common courses are on offer there, as well.

Cincinnati State also has a Workforce Development Center (WDC) in Evendale, which provides workforce education and career training. It also provides college courses and personalized training for non-profit companies, public sector organizations and government agencies.

Facilities and Services

The campus of Cincinnati State offers top-notch technology, quality service and convenient meeting rooms that can be used for various events and meetings.

The classrooms are smart and equipped with modern technology, while the gymnasium and swimming pool are always well-maintained. Presentation spaces, banquet facilities and meeting areas are available, too.

Special Admission Requirements

The core courses that nursing students will need to take at Cincinnati State are similar to the core courses taken by the students of other health degree programs. The only difference is that the nursing students need to have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 and a GPA of at least 2.5 for the first two curriculum terms in order to enter term three.

High school or college chemistry and biology are prerequisites for the nursing program, as well. To apply for clinical courses, on the other hand, students need to be state-tested licensed practical nurses or nurse aides in Ohio.
