Founded in 1964 as a state-assisted university, Cleveland State University (CSU) now has 16,000 students, more than 150 student organizations and more than 1,000 different courses.

Cleveland State University – School of Nursing

Cleveland State’s School of Nursing programs have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and have been approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Cleveland State’s School of Nursing is also a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the Council of Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programs.

Undergraduate Programs

Basic BSN Program

To apply for this program, students will need to attend an information session, complete all of the prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of C, have a minimum prerequisite GPA of 2.75 and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. This program usually takes three years to complete.

Accelerated BSN Program

Students who already have a bachelor’s degree can take this alternative program in order to get their BSN degree in just four semesters of full-time study.

Students will need to complete every required clinical and theory course to get their BSN degree, including all nursing specialty content. Graduates of this program can then take the NCLEX-RN licensure exam in order to become a registered nurse.

RN to BSN Program

Registered nurses can take this program to get a BSN degree to help them advance in their careers. A flexible online plan is also available for working RNs and the required courses can be completed in only three semesters. Graduates who meet all of the MSN requirements can immediately join the MSN program after graduating.

Graduate Programs

MSN Program

Cleveland State’s School of Nursing provides an MSN program that focuses on population health. In this program, students get to choose from these four tracks: nursing education, specialized populations, clinical nurse leader (CNL) and forensic nursing.

To apply, students need to have an active and valid RN license in the U.S. and a BSN degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. They need to have completed a statistics course of some sort, as well.

MSN/MBA Program

This program is taught part-time and is a dual degree that accepts 9 hours of MSN core courses as electives for the Masters in Business Administration (MBA)  program and 10 hours of MBA core courses as electives for the MSN program.

This program has been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

PhD in Urban Education

This special program prepares nurses to take on faculty positions and leadership roles in nursing education. To apply, students need to have an MSN degree, recent experience in nursing education or practice, and an active nursing license.

Interdisciplinary Certificates

Interdisciplinary certificates are offered at Cleveland state in partnership with their other departments. These are the programs that are currently available: nursing education, gerontological studies, and school nurse licensure preparation.

Graduates may work in nursing schools at LPN levels or diploma levels, in leadership education and organizational programs and in continuing education programs. They may also apply for the National League for Nursings Certification for Nurse Educators.
